TOL,can't get into the castle

I've cleared the four towers and the crypt under the chapel ,but the spirit won't show.....
I read a earlier thread and it talked about a vessel of reddish liquid in the chapel??? I didn't find it, so maybe the paladin in the west tower wasn't just there as a test of faith or something.....
I reloaded the game and still no vessel? what am I missing here?Where is this vessel...and if this is a bug is there a cheat code to get around it?

You put the helm into the holy water in the chapel...secret door opens...go down below and find the 4 crypts to place the 4 scrolls you got from the bottom floor of each tower...then the castle will open.
