Post The timeline

I was reading Crystal Shard in and in it, Salvatore mentions on how when Bruenor and his clan moved to Icewind Dale 200 years ago there was nothing there. A 100 years later the humans moved in and made the 10 towns. The game is set somewhere around that time, right? If the characters go out and save the dale how come nobody seems to know about the shard when Drizzt comes along.

Because people who live in far northern locations have very short attention spans. I myself come from Alaska and I can assure you... Oooh look! A bird just flew by my window! WHEEEE!!

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.
