| | | The party no one should have So i installed IWD again after getting bored of being competitive online with FPS games, and quickly threw together a party of my friends without putting much thought into it.
We have
Pedro the Thief (human thief)
Brady the Gnome (gnome fighter)
Anise the Magnificent (elf cleric)
and Laura the AssKicker(human druid)
It's a tough party to beat the game with, but I am actually going to go through the whole thing with it(hopefully).
On character creation i didnt think of stats too much, so My fighter has like 15STR (so terrible, I know), and can carry less weight than my druid, who has 17STR. Basically I just pushed "Roll again" until i got high numbers and didnt think of it again.
Right now I am in Dragon Eye, in the last Part, all at lvl9 or lvl10. There's a lot of good spells im missing out on with not having a mage, and my Fighter is a pretty weak tank, so what I'm having to do is Hide in Shadows with the thief, then going on to lure baddies out with a crossbow or longbow.
Anyone come up with a worse off party? |

| | | How about making the main attributes of your characters the minimum required for their class? And give them all a very low CON. That should be very bad :P |

| | | This party isn't actually all that bad - I beat the game with a similar party. A gnome fighter is actually one of the best melee artists in the game because it can wear the +3 Helm of the Trusted Defender (available from Conlan).
The thief is the weakling, with bows being its only salvation. With a cleric and a druid, you have good summons available. Use them. Strength potions will help lessen the offensive weakness of your tank.
I believe a party of pure thieves is the weakest - lack of spells, lack of hp, hard to hit anything. Stealth and mass backstab would be the only upside.

| | | Backstab First, check the configuration menu of your game if you are running Heart of Winter. You have the option of using sneak attack or backstab, not both.
You backstab by going into stealth mode and stabbing a monster from behind (note: must be done with a "thief" weapon if you are using a fighter/thief, and backstab doesn't work on certain non-humanoid enemies such as slimes).
I actually prefer using sneak attack to backstab; additional 1-6 damage per every two (or three?) thief levels and a crippling strike reducing movement and attack rolls. I find it better from a party perspective, as sneak attack can be used more often and is less likely to cause enemies to focus on the thief.

| | | Sneak Attack is simpler to use too, just attack an enemy that is attacking someone/thing different. It's in the game configuration (from the autoloader). |

| | | Location of backstab/sneak attack If you did a normal installation (e.g. put IWD into the folders suggested and created by the Install wizard), you can find it like this...
Start>all programs>Black Isle>Icewind Dale>Icewind Dale Configuration
Go the the 'Game' tab, and look on the right-hand side for the checkbox that says (under Rules Options heading) 3E Thief Sneak Attack.
Click the checkbox if you want sneak attack, clear it if you want backstab.

| | Just as Aerich says or:
Put the IWD CD drive in your drive
A window should appear with options such as 'Play', 'Install' etc.
Click Configuration
Then follow the rest of Aerich's instructions. |
