Starting a new game

What is the max number of points you can get during character creation? I have gotten up to 86 points to allocate to different stats, and have rerolled over 70 times. Is there a max?

If the random number generator is perfect, the max is 108. But that's so unlikely that you can consider it to be impossible.

Each stat is rolled with 4 6-sided dice rolls, the best 3 are added.
If the minimum stat requirement of the class isn't reached, the rolls are repeated.

So the total rolled points you can exspect differs considerably from class to class, races can also make a difference.

If you have a paladin for example you can exspect his total rolls to be about 5 points higher than a fighter's.
Rangers, bards, druids and specialist wizards have good rolls also.

Here some rolled total stats: (second number: str 18/xx)

Human fighter 94/78
Human bard 98
HE fighter/druid 94/00
Human Paladin: 96/94
Human fighter: 88/00
Human cleric: 94
Halfling fighter/thief 93

For most classes it isn't important to have rolls that high, only str,dex and con is important for all classes. A human fighter with 18/00 str, 18 dex and 18 con, remaining stats 3 is perfect unless you want to make him your diplomat.

A good benchmark is 90 points. To get even close to this, re-roll any time you see a stat under 12, unless the same set has 3 or more other scores over 16.

Note that 90 points is very difficult to get and isn't necessary for many classes. If the class doesn't require Int (bard, mage, specialist) or Wis (paladin, ranger, cleric, druid), those stats can be drained to the minimum. Same with Cha - it can be dropped as long as you have one character with high Cha in the party for buying purposes.

I am multiclasshing a thief/fighter/mage, so i wanted the max. I settled with a 86 with 18/96 str.
