My game does not launch, please assist.

Hello all,
I have a problem with IWD on my current machine. I think it has problems with some of my hardware but I am not sure.
The game installs fine but upon start-up it simply does not do anything. The cursor turns to hourglass for like 4 seconds and then nothing happens.
In other cases I get the General error window of windows.
Has anyone seen this symptom?

This is my machine's specs:
Asus A7N8X-Deluxe (nVidia nforce 2 chipset)
1GB Ram
Radon 9700Pro with latest catalyst
Sound storm sound card.
