How far can i go into IWD....

...before its too late to return to Kuldahar and start HOW? Can you return back to Kuldahar once you've started HOW?

Im just about to start in Lower Dorn's Deep now.

You can start HoW just before completing Lower Dorn's Deep
That is right after you got all the badges

Once in HoW you can return to Kuldahar several times after specific key events in the storyline.

I was wondering if I should finish IWD then export to HOW. Or jump into HOW before the end of IWD.

I recommend finishing IWD first and starting HoW with exported characters afterwards.

Yes. Only container (scroll case, gem bag) content isn't exported.

Also, you lose anything in those containers, so make sure you memorize/sell all the scrolls you can before switching over.

Because you also lose your gold when exporting, I recommend using your stored gold to buy some super-expensive stuff that you can sell later for a quick injection of cash.

You can't visit shopping anymore after finishing Lower Dorn's Deep anymore. (But you'll earn money fast enough in HoW.)
