Question How Do You Scribe or Copy Scrolls?

My thief picked up two scrolls which a Level 1 Bard can use. They are now in the Bard's inventory, and for the moment are in his Quick Items slots. Can he scribe or copy them into his book? He must be able to, as he has a book but no spells. Obviously, I'm new, although experienced in Neverwinter Nights.

What if my Illusionist has scrolls? How does she get them scribed into her book?

Strangely enough, I can't find this discussed in the Forum. I bought my Icewind Dale-the Ultimate Collection new, but it did not contain an IWD manual. I checked this out in the Baldur's Gate forum, and the question was answered - 'L-click on the spell (in inventory) and choose Copy', but nothing happened when I L-clicked.

While I'm here, why am I often told (since I started playing IWD with the Heart of Winter disc, which works more smoothly than the IWD disc and has the patches) that 'you cannot save at this time'?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Just right click on the scroll to view it then there should be an option to write it to your spell book/learn it if that character is able to do so.

As for the saving, its been a while since I played so I could be wrong, I don't think you can save in combat situations.

You cannot save while enemies are near or a spell animation is displayed. Just walk away from the enemies or wait until the spell animation ends.

Unhappy Thanks, mr_sir and kmonster ...

my bard's spellbook now holds the spells.

As for the 'can't save at this time' notices, they took place just after my thief came downstairs from looting Pomab, and when the party had just finished exchanging inventory items in the tavern, so I couldn't figure it out. As I said, I had just begun to use the HofW disc to play IWD, as I read that you'd have to do that to get all the patches. It did run more smoothly, with the characters moving more briskly and finding and picking up more loot more readily. Probably other things will go better too, but that is all I did.

How do you pick up gold to inventory after you've found it? There was gold found at Pomab's. We picked up the dagger and the spells to inventory, but the gold didn't seem to respond to picking it up, and it wasn't there on the thief's inventory page next time we checked. There was no increase in the party stash of gold either. The thief went back to get the gold, and sure enough found it again. There it sat outside the inventory slots, not responding to efforts to click or drag it anywhere, and then disappeared again.

Guys, I really hate to be asking about every step like this, but I can't go on losing out on found gold!

You also can't save while your party is splitted.

It isn't important if the HoW or the IWD disc is inserted while playing, that's just copy protection.
It's only important what you have installed.
First install IWD, then HoW and TotL afterwards.
The newer TotL versions already include the newest patch, but if your version is older you can install the latest HoW patch which adds some minor corrections.
You don't need other patches.

Gold is picked up automatically and added to your party gold if you click at it.

From what I've read about the additional changes, certain armor is considered magical and you get different random items or others are removed from the random drops. The bard gets a seriously need buff in terms of their capabilities, so that benefit alone is worth having Heart of Winter and the Trials of the Luremaster. Too bad I don't have HoW though...I'm looking around for a copy, but so far the prices have been too high for me.

In addition to the above mentioned circumstances, you can not save while a spell, f.e. web or cure light wounds, is in effect (i.e. as long as any graphic effects last).

Red face How will Murph handle ...

the Ice Horrors with the death gaze? I feel pretty stupid right now, but it's time I got used to that!

kmonster, I did realize that it was the installation of HofW that did the trick, but I thought you had to use that disc too.

That's the answer! My party was split one time I tried to save, but not the second time. But that's OK, now I know I don't have a bad bug, that sometimes you can't. I am used to NWN where you can always save, or at least I've never been stopped.

I got really confused about that gold. When the thief finds the loot and picks it up and I check her inventory, there are the items, a dagger and a gem and two scrolls, outside the inventory slots, and I dragged them to the slots, just like you do for items in the 'ground' column when you pick up after a battle. It seems to me there was also a loot bag and a tag showing an amount. We went back to the game play screen, the thief went back to the tavern, opened her inventory and there were all the items in the slots ready to distribute. It didn't surprise me that there was no gold in the slots, or that the loot bag and amount tag had disappeared, as gold is automatically pooled. But it did not seem to me that the party's gold total was increased, and I thought I looked before and after a couple of times. Also, when she went back to Pomab's the items were not in the bookcases but the gold was. She picked it up, the loot bag and tag reappeared in her inventory, but no increase in party gold as far as I could see. Sorry for the long narrative, but that is why I asked what I was doing wrong. I'll run through it again and see if clarity emerges!

As always, I thank you.

Red face There wasn't any gold ...

to be picked up, I have decided. (It wasn't a loot bag depicted in the inventory, but a pile of coins and an amount tag. I think that was showing the party's current stash.) I apologize for the confusion, and appreciate your patience!
