Help! Can't run HoW / Crashes on launching !!

Just yesterday did I get HoW, installed it and...IT ALWAYS CRASHES AT START !!
That is, I never had the opening menu, at best I had the intro movies, and then a message "Assertion failed in module CBaldurProj.CPP line 1737"
WHAT'S THE HELL HAPPENING with HoW ??

I have the French version of HoW, and on the same machine I ran BG1, TotSC, (these are US versions), SoA (this one UK!) and the basic IWD (French, obviously ) without any problems !!
Patching IWD to 1.06 and HoW to 1.41 isn't of any help...Neither did tinkering with the IWD config (2d/3d, 16/24/32 bits images....all give same results )

I have W98-2nd ed, 128Mo RAM, 32 Mo ATI Rage Pro card with latest ATI drivers, BUT am unsure if I have DirectX7 or 8...I'll try to put DX8 anyway today

Please help !!

Maybe the software itself is faulty. This happened to me with the original Baldur's gate.

Did you use the French update? There are different patches for US and European versions.

What do you mean by "faulty software" ?? HoW is *supposed* to waork, I think ? You mean faulty CD ??

Yes, I used French updates...Anyway it doesn't work any better with/without updates...

Sh*t that game !!
