Heart of Winter and inventory

I've cleared Dorn's Deep, at least the upper portion, and decided I'd give Heart of Winter a spin. My question I'm hoping someone can answer is this: if I leave equipment behind in Kuldahar or wherever, and complete HoW and come back to IWD, will it still be there? Or do I have to carry around a ton of extra stuff?

I believe if you leave it in a chest or container it should be ok. Just don't leave it on the ground.
