Charges on Magic Items

Excluding the magic items that specifically state the number of charges remaining and the magic swords and armor that have no charges on their magicked quality, does anyone know if the charges set on wands, staves, and other magic items is randomized? If the charges are pre-set, has anyone enumerated how many charges are on different items that don't specify the charges when first obtained by a character?

For instance, when I pilfered the Necklace of Missiles off of Fiddlebender and used it for the first time, it disappeared. Does the Necklace always have a single charge on it? Or is it a random number of charges?

You can normally tell by the description. If it has no charges listed (I believe those are set, not random) and doesn't say "Spell X once/day", chances are it's a single-use item.

There are no "charge" limitations, e.g. maximum number of uses, if the item is not single-use. Anything that can be used once/day can be used once/day for infinity.

The necklace is always a one-shot deal.

One more piece of very interesting information is that you can "recharge" any chargeable items if they have any charges left; just sell them to a merchant and buy them back. It can be expensive, but it's maybe worth it in the mid-game, expansions, and late game when you have bags and bags of money.

Thanks, Aerich, ur a fount of wisdom!

For the Necklace of missiles, can I get more charges if I sell it to Fiddlebender and then buy it back from him?

I definitely need bags and bags of money. The only thing I do now is constantly, after every battle, is store all the weapons from my slain enemies that I don't want to keep in some chest or niche and then hauling them a little bit at a time to sell in Kuldahar. My finger got tired from using the Multiplying Garnet Gem Dialog Bug, even though that's a great way to get tons of cash early in the game.

Welcome.

Sorry, you can never get any more charges on the necklace. Think of it as an Oil of Fiery Burning in necklace form.

I'm always short of cash until I hit the Severed Hand. That's the place where you really get tons of good weapons you won't use, and the shopkeeper gives excellent prices. Then I tend to spend all my money on stuff I've been waiting to buy.
