Character creation - Spending them points!

Does anyone else find the whole 'Reroll' thing annoying? Like, you're not sure if each of your characters are getting an equal amount of characters? Or do you try and get them equal...?

It's one difference between 2 nd and 3 rd edition rules
Bear in mind, though, that this is based on tabletop D&D and is supposed to simulate the actual rolling of dice.

Personally, I actually kind of like the challenge of rolling a character this way, but I'm probably weird

In the context of IWD, where you have six characters to roll, I can see how it might get tedious, but I don't know, there's just something fun about getting lucky rolls.

And no, you shouldn't get them equal, you should focus on the character having the points where it is important. For example, my fighter will have something like:
Str - 18/99
Con - 18 (19 if a dwarf)
dex - 18 (17 if a dwarf, 19 if an elf)
...and all the rest will be 10.

Or, my mage will look roughly like this:
Int - 18
Con - 14
Dex - 18 or 19 depending on race (a high dex is good for AC)
...and 10 in the rest.

BTW, if this thread doesn't end up focusing specifically on IWD, I am going to move it to RPG Discussion, since rolling characters is quite common to several games covered here at Game Banshee.

Hmmmmm... I may be wierd also because I love the rolling aspect - Sometimes I just sit there and try to best my stats lol... I love it when Ive been rolling in the 80s somewhere then I get the likes of 93 Its great lol

Made multiple chars just to roll

Just me though

When I tried going back to simply spending straight I was disheartened that I didnt have what I wanted

But then I do occasionally go back and stick with my initial rolls just for a bit of interesting stuff lol

Glad I'm not the only one who sometimes does that... It's a good thing I've never been into gambling.. I can just imagine what would happen

@Shantei,
if all the rolling in IWD irritates you, you might also want to consider using Dale Keeper, which is an editor. That way you can allocate points however you want, without all kinds of time spent rolling. In the interest of maintaining a fun and challenging game, though, I recommend that you keep it realistic. For example, top numbers (17 to 19, depending on race) in a character's most important attributes, and somewhere around 9 or 10 in the rest.

I see. I can actually understand how you'd find it better now and I'm getting to agree with you now .. that editor you mentioned .. it sounds good although, it just wouldn't be IWD if I added it you know? I need the full IWD experience even if that means keeping the rolls :P .. I guess I just needed to see it in a positive light by someone else .. which you've done lovely .. thanks v. much (and for the previous person poster).

Just a little nitpick:

DW, a 14 CON does nothing. Non-Warriors optimally will have a 16 CON.

lol, thanks for that! I couldn't quite remember what the number was since I usually end up creating a fighter/mage instead of a pure mage.
