I have played G1 and G2 and I'm very intersted in G3 my PC is better than the minimum requirements but the early demo was unplayable due to extreme lagging. I have : 2 ghz single core processor, Geforce 6600 graphics card with 256 mb Vram and 768m RAM. My question is: is there any way to make G3 playable? I don't care about the graphics i jist need to get it running.

Unfortunately it sounds like you will have problems given your experience playing the demo. My suggestion is to look at the box if possible and check the recommended system requirements--NOT the minimums--and if your system is at least as good as that, then you should be G2G.

You say you don't care about graphics, and you just want to get the game to run, but you should remember that for most games today the system component most needed to make them run well is strong graphics performance, unfortunately.

Edit: That GeForce 6600 is really your downfall, though the processor is pretty weak as well, I don't think it has as much overall negative effect as that graphics card.

How much system RAM do you have? What OS are you running?

Good luck!

i use xp sp2 and i have 768 mb ram i can't look at the box as i won't buy the game unless i can make it run but the recommended system is'nt much better than mine. maybe i can rewrite a config file or such? anyway, thanks for your answer. If i can't play it yet I'll upgrade my PC at the end of the summer so it isn't a tragedy.

You might want to check back in older threads, here. My impression is that Gothic III has problems with lagging even on fast, newer machines.

I tried Gothic III for a bit. Once you install the various patches and fixes it generally runs fine. Or, at least, it did on my relatively beefy machine.
I have no idea how it would perform on Realag's computer though...

lots of games have a "lowest graphics detail" that is lower than what you can configure in the options menu. you can achieve this by rewriting a config file one of my friends played oblivion this way for example. would someone who has the game installed be so nice and check if G3 has any and if it improves performance? thanks for every help given so far, I'll try to find some datas how much patches improve performance

There's supposed to be a community patch for this game. A Google search should help you to find it. The patch is supposed to make the game more playable, and there are likely other fixes included as well.

The game will not be playable on your machine. RAM is even more of a bottleneck than your GPU.

I'd say the practical minimum requirements are 2GB of RAM and at least a Geforce 6800 or 7600 card. CPU isnt all that important.

I am playing gothic 3 on a Q6600 quad core, 3 gig of ram and a hd4350, which is a low end dx10.1 card. It plays fine with good looking graphics.

So the graphics card will have little impact on the performance, if you don't mind about the graphic detail.

In general, it will be the amount of ram available and processor thats going to determine how good an experience you will have with gothic 3.

Also the community patches are worth installing.
