Gothic 1 Mud to kill or not?

I have just started gothic 1 and have bumped in to Mud, much to my annoyance and to be frank he is a pain in the rear end.

Can you kill him out of hand in a secluded area or is he integral to the plot?

Tried a search but didn't come up with anything

I finally got fed up with him and gave him a hiding!!! Unfortunately he was only unconcious, but i did rob him off hiss possessions :-)

He can be killed.

I didnt kill him myself as he ran away when I gave him a smacking. I later found his corpse by some scavengers outside the old camp

i killed him, he's not part of the plot or any quests as far as i know
