Gothic 3 demo

I didn't want to buy Gothic 3 before trying it out first as I've seen good and bad reviews of the game. I downloaded the demo but as soon as I tried to run it, it went to a screen saying 'time to see the guru' and told me that it was looking for memory. My memory meets the system requirements, barely, and this screen froze my whole computer, plus caused other problems such as causing me to have to reinstall my modem on my pc. Now I got the demo from filefront and I'm sure its the genuine demo. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did they solve it? I was kind of expecting it to say my video card was not good enough, but not my memory

Edit: Nevermind - Been reading the official forums and its my graphics that are causing it to happen. Still unsure why it caused me to have to reinstall my modem but nevermind.
