I dont really understand the "greatness" of BG or BG2... I have them both but have just tried them, dont like them very much. And surprisingly i voted fro kotor.... Hmm no one guessed it huh? I just played it a few minutes ago again, it never gets old for me. But also NWN is really good in multiplayer, i play it propably the most of any games.

I say this with respect: BG2 makes this poll somewhat of a laugher.

So, with respect, I vote BG2.

Better pole: will BG2 ever be bested?
Yes
No

Bg2

There are only two games there I haven't played - shattered steel and mass effect, so I won't judge them, but BG2 is their best achievement in my opinion.

BG1 was good, but didn't have anything close to the depth of BG2. You didn't "feel" the story. I didn't find very many things memorable about BG1. BG2 is one example of how a sequel [i]can[i] be better than the original. BG2's story was so... it was so... satisfyingly complex and immersive. You actually felt with the characters. Everything in the game was interesting, at least on the first play through.

Jade Empire had an awesome story. I was really hit by that story; so deep and intense it was that I spent every spare moment on it until I finished it, which didn't take long, and that was one of my problems with it. it was too short. Also, I wanted to play it on the harder difficulty but couldn't bring myself to play it again, which I believe to be partly due to the combat system. I played through BG2 twice when I was 14-15 if I recall correctly.

NWN was good, but it was pretty basic, boring and I liked the bigger parties in BG2.
I second that, and there was no depth to that story. And I disliked the game engine, it took much away from the feel of the story and the setting. Compare Amn in BG2 to Neverwinter in NWN, or to Waterdeep in its expansion. Amn feels much more like a medieval fantasy city than the other two. I didn't stop me from playing through that game more than once though

MDK2 was cool, but you just can't compare it to BG2, and the first MDK was more fun.

Now KOTOR. I only recently started playing this game to be honest, and am still far from finishing I think. I've just finished from Dantooine, and the game is awesome! I love this game, and it has made me give star wars a chance. They couldn't have done a better job with the music either, and the combat looks great. The inventory system is also very convenient, maybe the best I've seen. One thing I dislike in this game is that it isn't very challenging. There were battles in BG2 that took very many "load game"s to complete. Not much hard work is required in KOTOR. Also, the first swoop bike race was far too easy.

All these games rock, but I think BG2 rocked harder.

Maybe I missed something while playing BG2, but I think Kotor was Bioware's best game they have ever made. It easily out did all the other StarWars games that were made before it.

Posts removed. Let's keep on topic. If anybody wants to diss one or another of the games, there are threads in which to do so. This thread is for stating the reasons you chose one game as the best.

I was a little torn here. Mainly because BG1-2 are my favorite single player games of all time. But NWN is my favorite multiplayer game.

All in all I spent much more time in NWN online than any other game. That is why I voted NWN

Your posts were removed because they were off topic. This is a poll thread asking people to vote for what they feel to be the best Bioware game.

If you wish to voice a thoughtful critique of a game you dislike, RPG Discussion would be a more appropriate forum in which to do so.

To me, it's a toss-up between BG1 and BG2. The creation of the Infinity engine itself was a great achievement when BG1 was made, and there's something about the in-game atmosphere that simply isn't present in BG2. It just feels more like D&D. On the other hand, BG2 added much more depth to the characters and the quests, and the combat was taken to a whole new level. If BG2 had a plot that made more sense, I would have voted for BG2.

BGII, obviously. I had tremendous fun with KotOR, but it wasn't as refreshing as BGII. Maybe if KotOR II was as finely tuned & finished as part I, it would be concureention for BGII.
JE was good as well, but the combat wasn't as deep and it has much less replay value.

As a sidenote: why isn't PS:T or IWD included? IWD is as much Bioware as the others. (Or my IWD box lies. ) Same goes for PS:T, since they waren't split up yet, or my memory is playing tricks on me.

They weren't Bioware. They were produced by Interplay's Black Isle Studios division. Though Bioware's BG2 team acknowledged afterwards having incorporated a great deal from PS:T.

IWD definitly is from Bioware as well. Their name & logo are right there on the box. Pretty strong indication, right?

Per their website,

BioWare also licenses its game engine technology: the BioWare Infinity Engine™, which has powered a number of critically acclaimed role-playing games like Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter, and Icewind Dale II...

So it was their engine that was used. But PS:T and the IWD games were made by a completely different team.
