what's the point when everyone's just gonna vote for PS:T | Actually, a lot of people here consider BG2 to be the superior game. Sure, BG1 had a lot more open areas, and it was harder with far fewer overpowered items... all good things in my books. But, BG2 had a lot less FedEx quests, more meaningful role-playing decisions, and *much* more in-depth NPC interaction. Moreover, BG1 was considerably more combat-focused than it was story-focused.
It is especially owing to the party banter and strong story elements that I view BG2 as the better of the two. But, of course, that is entirely subjective, and with Tutu+BG1 NPC project installed the picture begins to change. However, I am basing my preference on the vanilla version of each game.
Regarding PS:T, yeah.. that was my thought too

Yes, while the original one DID start it all, for most of us it's the "way back when" and yes, we still play it, out of nostalgia and some the equal amount as they play BG2. Still, while the two games are from the same saga, you have to see how rare it is that a sequel to an amazing game isn't messed up. Here, we see that the sequel happened to be even more amazing than the original. The classes, the freedom, the story, the interaction, all of it, improved. Even without ToB (which just adds the epic factor to power, in my opinion, but still does a good job of finishing the story), Shadows of Amn is an achievement on it's own grand scale.

| | | Definitely KOTOR! Game was made a few years back and a lot of people including myself still enjoy to play it regurally. That makes a great game in my opinion.

| | | Ah. I kind of hoped I would have been able vote for a game that wasn't based on D&D. Little chance of that happening with Bioware, naturally. So, -sigh- all your vote belongs to BG2.
Still, Shattered Steel? I had no idea Bioware developed that. I remember reading an article about it a decade ago in a Dutch gamers magazine. The screenshots impressed me enough that I recognized the game eleven years later. Impressive. I pray old age and Korsakoff will catch up fast enough with me to make me forget about Oblivion by the time the next eleven years have ceased to be.

| | | I also didn't know that Bioware developed MDK 2. I've seen it on sale a long time ago but never took interest in it. From what little I know, it seems like you play as an alien or something and I don't remember this game being an RPG (thought it was a platformer or an action game).

| | | Baldur's Gate 2 is unbeatable. Combat was fun and great, I loved the setting, best NPCs ever written, and its nostalgia, as I managed to finish the gae at 11 years old, but BG1 lost my attention because it was so darn hard and I kept dying cos my characters had like 9HP.
KoTOR is a close second for me. It was an innoative game with a gripping storyline, although it was similar to NWN. I laos love the Star Wars setting, especially the Sith era, and it was just great in every aspect.
NWN was good, but it was pretty basic, boring and I liked the bigger parties in BG2. The toolset was pretty good, and I had a lot more fun with that than the actual game.
Jade Empire never appealed to me, and Mass Effect, as a XBOX360 exclusive is not gonna be as interactive as BG2 or KoTOR.
Never played Shattered Steel or MDK2. |

| | | It's KOTOR for me, and for a few reasons too.
1: The fantastic characters, HK-47 and Bastilla for example.
2: The thing that even though it is star Wars it doesn't feel like it.
3: Heart-pumping fun.
4: Fantastic story.
5: That stonking out of the blue twist. Only got it on my 2nd play through.
6: Brilliant gameplay.
7: Did i mention HK-47 the funniest NPC EVER!
