| | | How would you rate BioShock? Although it's very light on the RPG elements, it's still the "spiritual successor" to System Shock 2. Is the game worthy of all the near-perfect review scores it's been receiving? |

| | As a game, it's awesome! As a successor to System Shock 2, it fails. Like Oblivion, which is another awesome game, it caters to the general gamer instead of the fans of that particular genre. What I consider the game's shortcomings in no shape or form detract from the games fun factor!
To me, the difference between System Shock 2 and Bioshock is the same as the difference between Morrowind and Oblivion.
Some of the things that I dislike about the game:
1) Vending machines that allow you to create items aren't all that creative. They only allow you to make things from a predefined list of items, provided you have the required components.
2) The FPS portion of the game feels "dull". It feels like an overly simplified first person shooter.
3) Character customization also feels simplified and lacks the specialization that SS2 had. In SS2, one could tailor their character to be a gun-toting marine, a psychic, or an engineering genius. Bioshock seems to promote a jack-of-all-trades character development.
Again, despite a few of my dislikes the game is VERY fun and it should be forced down everyone's throat!

| | Ehh, it was cool, but didn't really bring anything nifty new to me. The plot wasn't that great, it was ok mind you, but not great. The action got a little repetitive, etc etc. Quote: |

| Wouldn't that make the game useless and potentially kill you with the cuts and scratches from the CD? Not to mention, it would rip the esophagus in half if you put the whole CD down your throat.
Feel free to do this to yourself, though I wouldn't recommend it and I doubt anybody else wants a piece of it. |

| | | It didn't revolutionize shooters like it said it would, the graphics were good, but what I liked about it was the atmosphere. Something there reminded me of the Fallout series. But I can't say I liked the whole "man versus world" thing... it feels too much like that.

I'm playing Bioshock right now (still in the early stages) and I can't say that I find anything revolutionary. Sure, there are some unique elements in there but not up till the point where it sets the bar high for shooters. A gross overstatement on their part.
Not going to say anything for now as I have not yet finished the game but all I can say is that it's not a bad game. The AI is kind of annoying and stupid, though.

| | | I finished playing Bioshock just today and I find it just average. The story and atmosphere is interesting. The audio-logs collected convey a convincing picture as to what happened to Rapture and what happened to the owners of those audio-logs.
Gameplay wise, the game itself is easy. Perhaps too easy for a shooter. It's as if the developers are aiming at an audience who have never touched a game before. The fact that you can resurrect at Vita-chambers without any penalty, weapons and items are strewn everywhere proves this.
The controls, while okay, can become troublesome as you are forced to use both plasmids and guns when dealing with enemies (be they splicers or Big Daddies). The guns are mostly underpowered. For example, not even a shotgun can kill an enemy instantly even though you shot them at point-blank range. Plasmids (the offensive ones), while useful, only helps to incapacitate the enemy more than killing them outright. The passive ones are more useful but it depends more on the situation than frequent use.
The fact that the levels are numerous and long, fighting the same enemies over and over again, hacking cameras, booths and turrets and the rinse and repeat nature of the game does make it repetitive overtime. If the developers had just cut off a few of the levels, perhaps the game wouldn't feel like a drag.

| | | Not that I finished the game or even plan to finish, but here it is: stupidly gruesome and gruesomely stupid; average at best. But who am I to judge mindless shooters? To each their own.

Quite a few are pretty good and the same can be said for other games of different genres as well, including RPGs. Compared to other shooters, Bioshock feels mediocre.

| | | Mediocre at best. All it did to gain so much hype in the media was having pretty graphics and having a console counterpart. Enough said.
