Post Uwe Boll Won’t Ever Be Entering the World of Warcraft

MTV Movies Blog is reporting that notorious video game movie director Uwe Boll tried to score the rights to produce a World of Warcraft movie... but was turned down.
“You go for it, to please the game fans, but on the other hand if you have the hard core gamers, they live in their own world. And you cannot fulfill their ideas from a video game based movie, it’s impossible,” Boll recently told MTV News. “And to be honest, the real gamers are the typical download guys, right? They don’t pay anything for movies, because they illegally download the movies. So why I should please these guys? I need the normal audience.”

That’s the Uwe Boll I know and love – the Uwe Boll who’ll criticize even his most ardent followers. God bless you, sir.

But if you’re not going to make a faithful adaptation, why make an adaptation at all? Apparently, the folks over at Blizzard wonder the same thing, since they practically laughed Boll out of their offices when he approached them about making a World of Warcraft adaptation, the director confessed.

“I got in contact with Paul Sams of Blizzard, and he said, ‘We will not sell the movie rights, not to you…especially not to you,’” Boll revealed. “Because it’s such a big online game success, maybe a bad movie would destroy that ongoing income, what the company has with it.”

A bad movie! He called his hypothetical adaptation bad. Awesome.

We still need about 790000 votes and he should stop making movies altogether.

That poll was such an epic fail, it started what...6 months ago? Not gonna happen

Apparently people really like our Uwe, 'coz he's not an f'ing retard like Michael Bay and his s'ty movies.

WoW? Meh. It's not like we're talking about a particularly strong setting or narrative here. Warhammer rip-off (while Warhammer is a LotR rip-off) with bright colours and respawning enemies. Don't know how you could even damage that.

What a hypocrite. My [lack of] respect for him fell even further. Actually, I'm not surprised at this news at all. Serve him right.

Well, if computer companies do not care about making faithful adaptations when they take over an IP/setting for other computer games, then why on earth should a directory for a movie?

Actually, it started 3 years ago. Still, the hopes are high.

Have one million people even seen his movies?

I don't want to be offensive, but are we talking about the same Warhammer? The Gamesworkshop one? I don't want to defend one or the other as "the original", but to say it's a rip-off, that's a bit farfetched. If you're (overly?) critical, you can call all fantasy a Tolkien rip-off, but I'd rather classify that as "Imitation is the greatest flattery."

The one that came first is the original. Duh.

Well, Warhammer v LotR aside, that's not very interesting, Warcraft is a pretty blatant Warhammer rip-off.

Is his whole tax evasion ordeal dealt with? From what I've heard it was pretty much the only reason he was able to finance his films.

I really fail to see the rip-off part in it. "Really powerful Race creates lesser races, lesser races fight against extraterrestial thread." I guess we better start sueing R.E. Feist as well. And TSR for creating Faerun. And 3DO for Might and Magic.

Unless, ofcourse, you consider all fantasy with elfs, orcs and dwarfs to be a rip-off of Tolkien, which could be acceptable.

In Warhammer: Chaos.
Warcraft: Burning Legion.
Extraterrestial isn't maybe the most accurate word. Maybe Extraplanar is better?
