The Hollywood Reporter brings word that director Uwe Boll will be shifting his focus to small budget films, due to the fact that In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale brought in only $3 million on its opening weekend. $67 million more to go just to break even:
Uwe Boll, the German director the critics love to hate, will return to low-budget filmmaking now that his latest and biggest production, the $70 million fantasy epic "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale," bombed at the boxoffice.

The adaptation of the hit video game, which stars Jason Statham, Ron Perlman and Burt Reynolds, delivered just $3 million over the weekend, marking the third flop in a row for Boll, whose "BloodRayne" and "Alone in the Dark" also failed to deliver theatrically.

Reached at his home in Mainz, Boll said the results from "King" mean he will be unable to continue with big-budget productions.

May we be truly thankful for small mercies....

I love Uwe Boll's movies. With a little more luck, I think his movies could have garnered a little more critical acclaim, and maybe earned an award or two, and tilted some positive favor with movie fans everywhere.

Not.

I've always wondered: how does he keep getting big-names to appear in his god-awful movies?

Does the bulk of his movies' budget go to *bribing* these people to be in his movies? I wouldn't think they would be hurting for a paycheck...

True story:
I once had a dream that Planescape:Torment was being made into a major motion picture... written, directed, and produced by Uwe Boll. I awoke exhausted, like you would after enduring several hours of mental stress and anguish.

Boll had a lot of money thanks to the German tax-exemption law that's now gone.

And he never had the biggest names, just sub-biggest. And those aren't hard to get if you got the money. Actors generally aren't artists, they're workers just like anyone else, not caring where their pay check comes from as long as it's a pay check. Michael Caine is infamous for his "I don't care if the movie is **** as long as it pays" attitude.

Sigh. Lets hope we will have a truly great director who can bring to life the games we enjoy on the silver screen. We have had enough bad hype as is, down with Boll.

Get the pitchforks men, I've got the torches!!
