GameSpy has conducted an interview with Monolith's William Westwater, in which the online director of development discusses variuos aspects of their upcoming sci-fi MMORPG, The Matrix Online.
Q: Exactly how quest oriented is the game? Are there opportunities to do things other than get involved with the story and go on missions?

A: As The Matrix Online opens, a tense peace has descended on the Matrix. Zion, the Merovingian, and the Machine City are all building covert networks of competing operatives, who in turn are measuring the viability and reward of each potential alliance. Some operatives may reject the war completely and focus instead on crafting and economics. Others may prefer to center on exploration of the Matrix and its mythos. Knowledge is definitely power within the system. For those inside the organizations, faction leadership beckons. Great benefits wait for the best and most organized factions -- or, you might just head down the nearest club, grab and drink and emote with your friends, vomiting included!
