As a fan of the original Bard’s Tale and of other console action/RPGs, I am profoundly disappointed by this imitative stand-up routine. Its sardonic take on typical conventions is thwarted by its own weak design, and its tongue-in-cheek humor fails more often than it succeeds. Laughter might well be the best medicine, but a bad joke is the worst ailment.

If a game can be refreshing, then The Bard's Tale is exactly that. It makes you laugh and when was the time that you remember a game doing that? Sure, we often smile and say, "Did you see that?" while playing games, but a real down deep gut laugh is hard to come by.
Do yourself a favour and give this game a shot. I don't have time to go back to games and replay them very often, but The Bard's Tale is on my list.
