| | Nearly 1GB?!
The demo must be worth of the 18 hours of downloading
I'll post some comments when able to try it.
EDIT:
For all of those who are going to download the demo, I suggest thenZone link. I tried from Gamer's Hell, and max speed I was able to download it was aroun 20 kb/s, as in nZone it's currently well over 200kb/s

And at those times demos were somewhere near 100 Mb at maximum

| | 1998? At that time, I didn't download any demos. I was still on dial-up back then. I only started downloading demos and other larger files when I changed to broadband two years later.

| | | If you're trying to decide whether to download the demo or not, the demo only includes the first map in the game, which takes maybe a half hour to complete. So you can see a few things about how the game is going to work, but not a whole lot, and it'll probably take you longer to download the demo than play it.

| | The only thing that surprised me about the size is that the installer is bigger than the installed demo. What the heck?
Isn't it supposed to go the other way around?
As to the actual game, I was underwhelmed. It seemed very generic in what little story there was, as well as in gameplay. "Mankind goes into space. Oops, we got attacked by an alien race." I think I've played that game before. The whole thing just seemed a little half-assed, like they just wanted a game to sell. Plus the demo was fairly lame as far as demos go as well. Demos are supposed to demo the gameplay, but you don't even level up in the demo, which means you barely see the (half-assed) character system. All you do is run around shooting things, which, too me, got repetitive even in the demo, which was also incredibly short.
Now, I don't want everyone to agree with me, or anything, and I'd still advise playing it yourselves to see what you think, but it really didn't do much for me, at least. Hack and slash games tend to be rather shallow, which isn't a bad thing and just goes with the territory, and I love a good hack and slash game as much as anyone, but you need a good character/loot/skill system backing it up, or there is no goal to play for. And Space Siege, to me, seemed incredibly bland. Because, without a good reward system, all you do is, as I said above, run around shooting things, from a top down perspective, no less. Basically it takes all the boring parts from a few different genres, and none of the good ones.
Who knows, maybe the actual game will be better, and being able to upgrade skills and stuff will help, but, still, I was disappointed by the seeming lack of creativity and the overly simple gameplay. I'll be interested to see what other people think of it, though.

Spent 6 hours downloading the demo, installing took over 30 minutes (had to restart it twice as it got strange problems). When I got to the game, I died 3 times in a opening attack, as both times I wandered a tad too close to those exploding barrels. After I got over that parts, the demo actually took around 15 minutes to be finished. Basically, all it offered was a short tour to controlling system (not bad, though nothing special), graphics and that "upgrading" system. So, I spent almost 7 hours just to see 15 minutes worth of graphics? Even the graphics weren't revolutionary, though that may be cause I had to turn down the graphic settings to ensure smooth gameplay. Perhaps I could have got better visaul result with finding the optimal settings, but just couldn't bother for that short demo.
Oh, and noticed also that the installer was bigger than the game itself.
Even funnier is, the first exe you download was actually self extractor which extracted the real installer
Oh, and one more thing, did anyone else had problems with downloading from Gamer's Hell? I tried twice, fastest was somewhere near 10-15 kb/s, but from nZone the fastest was well over 500 kb/s...

| | | Dang. Just tried the demo and dang...it's terrible. Nevermind the look and odd interface design, how the hell did they manage to put such steep system requirements on such a mediocre-looking game? |

This is probably not unusual for game that hasn't passed its beta stage yet (actual release date of the game is in a few weeks, no?). Games and I gather most software are usually pre-compiled when you download them.
