The latest PC Gamer issue claims that next month's issue will include previews for Baldur's Gate III, Dungeons & Dragons Online, Neverwinter Nights II, Atari's Dungeons & Dragons RTS, and more as part of a celebration for Dungeons & Dragons' thirtieth anniversary. Don't believe us? Here's a scan:

So who's developing BG3 and NWN2?

Ooooo, hope BG3 follows a similar plot!

I don't go as far as saying it is probably crap, but they should really only develop the game if it's going to be awesome. And I'm afraid that's going to be tough (with Black Isle not developing and players having immense high expectations)...

NWN was great, and Black Isle weren't involved.

NWN was a good game (for most people), but it's crap compared to BG. NWN is fun to play for some hours...BG really grabs you and takes your social life away from you.

That's because Baldur's Gate really gives you a social life in exchange. Black Isle games such as Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment, are the best most engaging games around. They worked miracles.

The objective of both games were different.
The idea behind BG was for you to play a great d&d game with a wonderfull story, solo.
NwN was created for multiplaying purposes and creating an after sale online community.

But unless I'm mistaking, I don't think this is the forum for this debate?

Wink

Heresay...

But even if it was real, I wouldn't think much of it. I think the original game meant a lot to many different people. I've read every novel, researched every 2nd edition AD&D technical manual, and played every infinity engine game ever made available. I don't have much faith in the future of this particular game because most of the original creators have essentially grown up; or at least they think they have. But therein lies the problem. They've abandoned what they thought was a passing interest of their late teenaged years. What they didn't realise what that this became so much more to many people.

People like myself have taken it upon ourselves to revive this fantastic story and somehow ignite a newfound set of fans in this quickly aging epic. I think it's a great story and I intend to do my part no matter how long it takes.

To all those who've played the game and fell in love with the Baldur's Gate stories I say, 'keep the faith'. The creators may have left us but the story will live forever. It's imaginative, adventurous, and great fun to play.

All I can say is that there better be either Minsc himself or someone just as cool as minsc. This looks promising and I will look more into this.

Also, unfortunately to those who like black isle, I am sorry to say, but I am glad
that they are NOT doing this. Mainly because the games NWN by Bioware, and Icewind dale by Black Isle aren't following the rules. Not all of them anyway. Now, I do think it would be INSANELY AWESOMEZOR if bethseda softworks were to do a DND game. That would definatlely improve (though it doesn't really need it) the DND fame status with it's almight Elder Scrolls Series.

I for one, hope that they follow the rules -completly- this time. Black Isle and BioWare are good, but following the rules makes it all the more better.

While im extatic at the thought of another BG...where the hell are they going to go with it? LoL I mean, i thought they wrapped it up pretty nicely in ToB, you either become a god or you dont and live out the rest of your days as a mortal...albeit a level 27 or so mortal who still has godlike powers.

Hmm...maybe...

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 were developed by Bioware, not Black Isle. Black Isle was involved in the development as Interplay was the publisher, but not more (afaik).

I don't know what to expect. Perhaps a different game which has nothing in common with BG1 and 2 except the name?
