An interesting read. However I see physics as a feature - rather than at the core of immersion as this article tries to make out.
I think this article shows the direction of gaming - one that it has been going in for the past few years but is gaining more momentum - that of visuals over depth and content.

If we're at this point I'm worried. If developers can't create a lore filled universe, sharp dialogue and a deep storyline - I guess an advanced casual physics engine is a fine substitute
