| | GB Feature: Game of the Year 2007 Awards For the first time in GameBanshee's history, we've conjured up a set of awards for what we feel are the most noteworthy role-playing games of 2007. For the sake of keeping things simple, we only went with eight different categories: Best Story/Writing Best Original Setting Best Graphics Best Sound/Music Disappointment of the Year Independent RPG of the Year Action RPG of the Year RPG of the Year We originally intended to have an MMORPG of the Year award, but soon realized that we hadn't spent enough time with every contender to do such a category justice. Maybe next year. In any event, we hope you enjoy reading why each game received its respective award. |

| | | Why does the disappointment of 2007 not have a runner-up?
I think there should have been less categories. Or no runner-ups. The feature article clocks in at little over a dozen games. There aren't enough titles and too many rewards, which pretty much means there's something there for every notable RPG. To me it makes it seem more like a run of the mill type of best-of article than it perhaps needs to be.

| | | Too bad we can't give a Disappointment of the Year award to Bioware, for selling itself to EA.

Why limit the ___ of the year awards to games? GameBanshee is sort of a newsgroup site after all, one that doesn't just encompass RPG games. Why not specifically award software developers, publishers and review sites too?
I like that idea. It would fit more with what GameBanshee really is.
How about it, Buck? 2008?

| | | Hello, I'm just wondering from what game, or the name and author of the artwork for the GameBanshee's GotY 2007 Awards picture? I'm referring to the image split in 3 on the right it's Mass Effect, the middle is BioShock, and on the left is the artwork I'm puzzled by. Does anyone know? It's the kind of art I could see in BG2. Is it from NWN2? Thanx and happy new year! |

| | I kind of figured that we'd get some flak for putting BioShock on the list, especially when it's listed as an action RPG. It might be a stretch, sure, but even though the team toned down the RPG elements that were present in System Shock 2, we felt it still had enough in common with that classic to warrant a spot on the list. It's also possible we could reduce the number of categories, though I don't agree with you that "every notable RPG" received an award. We had a lot to choose from this year, and ended up weeding out titles like Jade Empire: Special Edition, The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles, Puzzle Quest, Loki, Silverfall, Dawn of Magic, The Chosen: Well of Souls, Depths of Peril, Requital, Two Worlds, Nethergate: Resurrection, Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground, Jeanne D'Arc, Dungeons & Dragons Tactics, Alien Syndrome, Overlord, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., etc. That quick list doesn't even include the JRPGs or MMORPGs.
Regardless, I'll certainly make note of any constructive criticism for next year. Quote:

| | Since you seem to like the Morenn artwork, I've uploaded a new wallpaper of it to our The Witcher subsite (it's the second one in). Enjoy . | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
