To the surprise of many, Bethesda apparently announced at a London press conference that they've handed the reins over to Obsidian Entertainment to develop a new RPG called Fallout: New Vegas.
We’re just heard that Bethesda’s announced a new Fallout game - titled Fallout: New Vegas - at its London showcase.

Apparently it’s the same style of game as Fallout 3.
We’re waiting on more detail.

Update: It’s releasing in 2010. Obsidian’s developing.

Update 2: It’s PC, PS3 and 360. Not a Fallout 3 sequel
Very, very interesting. Turn-based and not third-person, maybe? One would assume this is the game they just inked a contract for earlier this month.

Very interesting indeed, since Obsidian has most of the people that were working on Black Isle's aborted Fallout 3 project.

I haven't played Fallout 3, but I might check this out.

I'm not a big Fallout fan, even though I did play the first Fallout and couldn't be bothered with it's sequel, but here's hoping that it might turn out to be a good Fallout game.

Though I do have doubts as to whether it is possible to be a top-down game, considering how bad this F3 engine is at making use of the 3rd person view.
