Finishing off tonight's coverage of the E3 media blitz is a two-page preview of Bethesda's Fallout 3 over at The Escapist/WarCry.
For starters, fans of the original games need to know this: much of what you loved about Fallout is in there. The Pip-Boy has been faithfully updated, as has much of the character stat system, and the turn-based aiming mechanic. While the combat in Fallout 3 is not turn-based, you can enter the VATS system to target individual body parts of your opponent, and allocate action points, then watch as your character cinematically executes the attacks, often triggering explosions of gore.

Warcry? That's the Escapist magazine. Though apparently linked to from Warcry's E3 coverage, it's still Escapist.

Also, it claims the game is set "in 2072, two hundred years after a nuclear war devastated the Earth," and it claims Van Buren was 10 years ago. Hilariously misinformed article.

Yeah, apparently more than a few people are having a slow day.

I'm guessing that Bethseda is demonstrating Fallout 3 via closed doors, are they? Haven't seen any videos or screenshots as of yet.

WarCry and The Escapist are run by the same people (Themis Media). In previous years their E3 coverage has always been branded with the WarCry credentials, but this year they're apparently only listing the coverage on WarCry and then featuring the articles on The Escapist domain. I'm betting this is because The Escapist has done really well traffic-wise since it was started a couple of years ago and they're planning to make it into an all-encompassing gaming site.

That might change, though, if they keep writing ridiculous articles like this one.

Wow. And I thought the escapist had some credibility and integrity. Thanks Russ, one gaming site less to visit.

Define "really well". It doesn't look to be doing as well as your site or mine.

Given the amount of time it's been online and the fact that it was first started as a "sister site" to WarCry, I think The Escapist's traffic has grown at a pretty good pace. Numbers aside, the site has also built up a solid reputation with its well-written and informative articles that typically put a unique spin on industry happenings. It's because of that reputation that I was surprised to see such an inaccurate, overzealous preview as this one.
