IGN PC has put together
a two-page preview of Arkane Studios' Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, after spending some more hand-on time with the RPG/FPS hybrid.
Arrows shot from bows are noticeably affected by gravity so some adjustment in aiming is necessary, but can be incredibly useful in taking out visible enemies at range before rushing in. Using the weapon as a quick fire solution doesn't seem to be any option however. Knocking an arrow, pulling back and releasing is not instantaneous. Switching to a melee weapon is definitely the way to go when enemies close distance.
Those that prefer to use stealthy approach when available will have the option to sneak up on enemies, hold down the left mouse button to use a melee stance, and perform a backstab insta-kill attack. The result is bloody and completely effective. Even stealth tactics need an element of speed however. When out of direct-line of sight, enemies won't react instantaneously, but some enemies like the orcs have a pretty keen sense of smell that will eventually alert them. Closing quickly and quietly works very well however.
