| | | Especially since you can get a pretty nice system for $300/month from dell with 40gb/month transfer.
The vBulletin board is fine, its what I'll use when I redo my site, thing is that is only a few hundered a year if that depending on the license model.
Also, during the course of my full time job i have free amounts of time which allow me to do some work on my site.
You do what you gotta do I guess. |

Regardless, I am tired of defending my decisions over and over again. I have been honest since day one of GameBanshee, providing detailed information about what the site costs to run and what sort of revenue it brings in. I have been providing this information so that our viewers can have an understanding of why I was forced to move the site to a subscription-based model, not to have you accuse me of "profiting off our users in such a cheap way" or getting "ripped off" by our hosting provider. Your site might cost less to run with different hosting, better programming skills, and the freedom to work on it during your day job, but since you aren't aware of all the facts, know all of the circumstances, or understand my time constraints, I don't think you have the right to judge me or this website.
If, after everything I have said, you want to believe GameBanshee is making me a wealthy person, that is your choice. I have provided more than enough information to prove otherwise.
Anyway, I am done posting in this thread. If you have anything more to say about the matter, please send it to me in private message only. |

Buck's doing a great job and, anyway, everything on the web is becoming pay-sites. So why are people this angry, or dissapointed, about having to pay for the services of the greatest resource, site for almost every RPG, on the internet?

And I'm sure Buck appreciates (sp?) ideas.
But, Buck has been doing this for some time now. And he knows what he's doing.
Then it's not easy to keep saying why he did what he did, time after time. (It's been discussed on many accasions)
Nobody ment to flame you if you feel it that way.

| It seems to me that you didn't even give Buck the benefit of the doubt with anything. I mean, what are you thinking? That he built this web-site, then woke up one day and said "Hmm... I wonder what to do now". Especially since he's pretty much annoted and answered everyones "complaints" as well as gone above and beyond by detailing every step along the way... or were you too busy to throw your 2 cents in without bothering to read anything else he has posted?
I've lurked around these message boards for quite some time now, and haven't posted too much, but I must commend Buck for his civility. He doesn't do this for the money, or the glory, or does he even ask you to write a column about him. Instead, he says "Here, use these forums, and there's a pay service as well". If it were me, and people told me how they have other sites they go to, I'd pretty much say "C'Ya, wouldn't want to be ya".
Of course, Buck seems much less confrontational than I am, but for the life of me, I can't understand why he puts up with some of the junk people put him through.
People who complain about the simple things in life like this are the same people who listen to something on the radio, and instead of changing the channel, they complain to everyone and their brother about how awful this is, or how terrible that is. Geesh.... here's a quarter, go call someone who cares.
Of course, I don't speak for Buck, I don't even know Buck.. seems like a nice enough gent though. But on behalf of those of us who lurk in the corners, and read this message board, and are named Bri Guy, I say this "BACK OFF AND LEAVE HIM ALONE" A simple "Thank you for all your had work, Buck" will do, and perhaps even a tip of the cap. If you don't like it, bon voyage and don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you.
Sorry... I had a 2nd cup of coffee today, and am feeling a bit... brawlish.

Ive never had so much fun on a forum, nor have I encountered such nice people on the net. And this was the top source for my RPG playing info. No questions. Ive recommended this site to many of my friends and they agreed.
But....lets try to be respecting of both sides. I mean I dont like to step into arguements that have nothing to do with me, but flaming and disrespectfulness should be avoided at all costs. So lets just try to keep it civil and be respecting all sides whether youre Buck, Fable, CtrlAltDel, or anyone. Alright? We dont want to make it ugly....(Or uglier than it already is)
