Only Buck can ban people. (as of now).
And only the appointed moderators can do something in the assigned forums.

I know Room 101 is sick and posting stuff like that. He is angry he got banned some time ago and decided to take it out on "us" instead of accepting it.

Just ignore him using the ignore filter untill we can get this mess cleaned up.

Xandax and I have been working on a solution for this, so hopefully something can be done about the issue ASAP.

Yes, this has gone too far!

Do you still advise all mods to delete whatever threads he leaves in the other forums?

Any new thread I see, I report if I can't delete it myself.

Of course only Buck can have the "power" to ban people. But it is not possible for one person to control the forum 24 hours every day.
Maybe all moderators could be allowed to delete in all forums, or maybe even to ban people temporary (fx 1-2 days) until Buck decide if the ban should be permanent or not??

What I've done for the time being is shut off the ability to insert pictures directly into a post. You can still upload attachments, but the BB code required to actually display a picture will no longer work. It doesn't entirely solve the problem, but at least it limits it to text only.

On a forum I administrate and moderate at the site owner has the final say when it comes to a permanent banning, but all co-admins have the power to temporarily ban a member in the event that there is a crisis of some kind and the owner is not about at the time.
We also have the ability to moderate the entire forum, even though each of us tends to spend more time in certain areas than in others.

I'm not certain such a system would work here, since the two sites are very different, but I wanted to at least make mention of it.

I really have no say in the matter, but I suggested several times the "global moderator" idea. No banning powers, not mini-admin, just global mod. The only power he's go is the ability to close and delete threads all across the board. The reason such a global mod may be effective is that, assuming he's got the time to spare, he can do a massive pruning of such things as the posts of *cough*LOclones*cough*. Let's face it; LO can post on every forum in GB. Why can't there be a mod that can reach him wherever he goes?

On a side note, we should hire moderators that are on a different timescale, say Asia or Europe. That way, we would have a "night shift" without really having a night shift. The Euro/Asian mods can moderate the forums during the "down" hours.

Deleting and closing posts, preventing pictures, that sort of thing ... they're really just temporary measures. What we NEED is a permanent solution; if neccessary we should ban LO's entire range of ISPs. Let's face it, what are a few users caught in that range, versus the entire rest of the board that are sickened by LO's immaturity? If I were caught in the range, I would gladly give up my right to post here if it means peace and quiet for the rest of you! I hope others feel the same way.

Indeed, we really have no say in the matter, but for what it's worth.... I don't really think the idea of a single global mod is feasible since nobody will have the time to be about 24/7. This is why I suggested that all mods be granted the power to delete/close threads etc. across the board. I also don't think that giving mods the power to temporarily ban somebody is a bad idea, seeing as Buck can't be around all the time either, but clearly that is up to him

In fact, geography does factor into the way mods are chosen, especially in SYM. Xan is in Europe, Mah is in Asia and T'L is in the US. If all mods were to be given global powers than the various corners of the gobe would be covered fairly well.

I don't really think it is fair that LO's juvenile antics should prevent others in his IP range from joining the community. However, I do agree that a permanent measure is required... It are for reasons such as LO's stunts that ISPs sometimes discontinue service to clients... Perhaps this is in the realm of possibility????

Unfortuneatly, both Xandax and I have contacted his ISP, and (though, not sure on Xan's part) have gotten no response back. Range banning might be the only feasible option...

There is a certain efficiency to giving your mods and co-admins the ability to lock and move a thread to a shadow archive and teporarily ban someone pending further review when a serious infraction has occured.

Having a staff with a clear understanding of the expectations of the owner and clearly posted rules, along with carefully choosing people who share the owner's views and goals are essential to this working well.

I believe that Buck's staff are well equipped to exorcise those administrative powers with his authority.
