I have noticed that I am a Registered User and that most people have lost their 'exalted' status (though I still see it under some titles in old threads... I cannot tell if they are actually exalted members now or if its just that it was recorded as that and has no reason to change), but there are people with titles such as "a quintesential of dust' or 'twisted sister' and I wanted to know, is there any significance in that? how did it become that? just curious...

The board made a big change a few weeks ago.
Before the change, a member was just a member, and a member with more then 50 posts became exalted.
Some people made a subscription to the site, the site was add-free for them and they could change their title.

After the change a new members becomes a registered users.

As you seem to know the Excalted Member was on the old forum system, and when people had 50+ posts. Nothing much there.
The other titles you see "Twisted Sister" etc, are remnants of the "paying membership" program that Buck had up and running at point. When people joined up and payed for it, we were allowed to choose our own titles, and some has thus chosen "Twisted Sister" and such.

How this will be from now on out, only Buck can answer, but basically - this is why you see some people with different titles then the "usual" Registred User (and Excalted User from the old system).

Hope this helps a little.

Edit: Bugger - Stilgar beat me to it

I can't remember the cost actually - but the benefits were to choose your own membership title and an addfree board. And of course to support GB, which was my main reason for signing up.

I didn't realize that the new forum changed everyone back to the regular "Registered User". I have went back in and updated everyone to the old title scheme, Member for 1-49 posts and Exalted Member for 50+ posts.

Thanks!!! this is very cool, you made the change to 3.0 when I was at 45 or so posts, and it was a little frustrating, but im exalted now! haha....

So I take it that the paying subscription is no longer in effect?

Correct. The subscription feature had too much administrative work and cost associated with it, unfortunately.
