Question Question for fellow moderators.

I'm posting this in the Discussion forum, cause I don't really know where else to put it (could we get a secret moderators forum? )

I was just wondering how many of you moderators read and/or reply to the questions gained from e-mails in the moderator@... e-mail adress?

I've been talking a bit about this with Stilgar.

I'm trying to scan my e-mails I revice via the moderator@.... but I'm sure that I overlook some (afterall - we recive a large amount of spam via that account ) and I try to answer what I find, normally by requsting people to post on the forum instead when it is game related.
But if everybody answers e-mails, it could be that we answer the same one multiple times, but then again - if only I (or a few) answers - there is a larger risk of overlooking some serious questions.

So - how many of you moderators read and/or reply the e-mails in that adress?

Very few, as most of them are spam or virus infested. If the title to one seems legitimate such as "Help" or "Why can't i post?" I'll take a look and see if it's something I can help with. Game questions get directed to the forums though

I get so much spam in my account that its a daily chore to read through (roughly 800+ a day, with only 1, maybe 2 being relevant). A Moderator forum would be great. As well as having questions asked via PM, rather then mail

Well - I have a spam filter proxy running that assigns a percentage to each mail. I can then sort the mails, and only look at the mails that have a percentage of lower then 92% (for instance - usually around 90% and lower.)
This does limit the number of mails I have to scan manually, however, I'm sure I still miss some (a lot?) of "real" mails, which was why I was interested in whether or not other moderators also tried to catch such mails.

It is my intention to eventually install a server-side virus and spam filter, but due to the cost and time commitment, I haven't done so yet. Being on the webmasters, news, moderators, and advertising lists brings me thousands of emails a day, so it's definitely an issue for me as well.

Since I am only moderator for the low active D2 forum, I have to admit I never check the moderator@...e-mail. If there are many mails, I'll start checking although I doubt I am the right person to answer most of the questions.

Moderating isn't a job (although it sometimes feels like it ).
We are simply "ordinary" users from around the world, that have been assigned moderator abilities/powers.

So anyone may become a moderator? But it takes time, isn't it, to observe all the threads... If it's not a job, I assume you do sg else for living - how do you have time for this, then? (Well, thinking it over, even I spend hours a day scanning this forum... But not ALL the threads, of course.)

Neither do the mods, I assume. Not if they have good sense . You may have noticed the mods only moderate a few of the forums?

Speaking of what Brynn said, it looks as if we REALLY could use some more moderators, particularly in these forums:
  • Dungeons & Dragons
  • Forgotten Realms
  • Temple of Elemental Evil
  • Icewind Dale 2

Many concepts for threads are repeated without being closed in ToEE and IWD2 forums, and some content needs to be more readily reviewed (and possibly edited by a mod) in the other two.

Note: This is not intended to discredit moderators or administration of GameBanshee in any shape or form. This is just a notice for moderators on potential problems. If any wish to deeply discuss this, please discuss.

I agree that several forums could use another moderator. I think it may be time to post another Help Wanted announcement for moderators, to see if anyone might be interested in taking on the responsibilities.

Well - a few of us has discussed this as well - and I wouldn't mind taking on a few of the smaller forums where I already have my daily movements. (GB Discussion for one, and the Tech forum)

Personally - I would think it best if each forum (including the less used one) has a moderator besides the administrator - it would very much limit the number of my PMs to Buck
