Invasive Advertisements

I've been experiencing a pop-up ad from one particular adverstiser on the website that presents no visible way to "close" the ad. All of the others I have seen feature a "close" button...even though it can be tricky to find ...but this one does not. The problem is, the ad covers the majority of the screen, making it impossible to interact with the website while it is up. The only way to escape it is to close the browser window, as the ad also "covers up" my navigation buttons, address bar, browser toolbars, etc.

To the best of my memory, it is a soft-drink ad...Sunkist I do believe. If I encounter it again, I will note exactly who the advertiser is and update this post.

Is anyone else experiencing something similar?

Update: the advertiser in question is indeed Sunkist.

Can't say I've seen anything like it.

An obvious question now would be, what browser do you use.
I use Firefox and have no advertisement problems whatsoever

I use IE at home and have the same problem with the Sunkist ad..
while at work, I use Mozilla and haven't had the popup bother me.

At home if you wait 30 seconds or so the ad closes down.

I have some issues with a "Nike Soccer" (http://image.ugo.com/Nike/nike-soccer_peelback.swf) advert which looks to be flash, and should apparently roll out. Problem is that it does not roll out but still covers the menu buttons.
This was in FireFox 2

If it's an actual pop-up ad (ie. it opens a new, separate window), why not just press ALT-F4 (end current program) in IE or CTRL-W (close current tab) in FireFox when it's the main window ? That should close it without touching anything else.

It is not a popup - it is a roll over, and a faulty one at that.

I don't recall seeing the Sunkist ad myself, but I'll forward this on to UGO and have them check it out.

Can anyone confirm that this problem only exists in Internet Explorer?

I use Internet Explorer and that Sunkist ad has been trying my patience for some time. There are several other annoying ads that block the whole screen, but the Sunkist stuff is particularly obnoxious.

My problem with the Nike was in Firefox 2.
I've not seen the sunkist ad myself.

I had the same problem with Nike using Firefox 2, but I haven't noticed a Sunkist advertisement at all with Firefox.

The sunkist-add popped up just now, and I found a Close-button on it.
It's in the upper left corner.

I get that sunkist ad also, I either wait it out or open new page. I use IE.

Yes but sometimes the ad scrolls along with you and keeps the close button out of reach. This only happens about 50% of the time.

I don't know what the capabilities of your web browser are, but on some of the leading ones, you can reduce or increase the size of viewed content. If the close button goes out of reach, try reducing screen size. Just a thought.

Similar problem existed with the "Codemasters/overlord_immercial_v1.swf" advert just now, which had "Advertisment Loading", but was still rolled out over the menu buttons, so I couldn't navigate the site, taking up the top 25% of the screen with it's overlay.

(Firefox 2)
