| | | Hey Acleacius,
I don't personally have a problem with it, since I actually belong to another forum where the age group is supposed to be aimed for people over the age of twenty, for the most part.
While I do think that GameBanshee is aimed at older RPG players, I also have to way in people like Oscuro_Sol, who is <blank, now unsure> years old, or Craig, who joined when he was 12 or something like that. Hell, Aegis was also 15 back in 2001 when he joined, I think.
Fact is, it's supposed to be an all-ages site from what I know. Usually that means for most site, a limit on what North Americans (don't know where you're from, apologies) call PG-13. If it looks like an ad for girls gone wild or for vibrators, than that's the part of GameBanshee's viewership who shouldn't be seeing the content.
In the end, it's all down to Buck, really.

| | | The site is a "family" site, although some of the games are rated higher then that. Hence the rules regarding for instance profanity.
However, Buck has little direct control over which adds are shown in the rotation, but if he feels it is inappropiate, he'll try to take it up with the addvertisment provider. |

| | | I wasn't aware it was a PG-13 intended site, which must be a monster task since 99% of the games are Adult rated.
Like I say I intend no ill will towards anyone but even PG13 shows Boobs and even Frontal Nudity in movies, iir.
Not to mention every creditable Scientific study about Human Anatomy shows for example a Female’s body to be at its peak efficiency for child birth starting at 15 to about 19, so the idea that teens are not spouse to know about sex wholly unfounded.
If some parent wants to try to withhold Essential Life information from their child, it is certainly their choice but to expect the public to be act in such an irresponsible way towards the child by pretending Objective Reality does not exist, would be grossly irresponsible.
Children learn responsibility from truths, they learn irresponsibly and antisocial behavior from lies.
That is most politically correct way I can put it with out sounding frustrated at even having to have this conversation.

| | | It is not simply a matter of being "PG-13", but more so that one behaves in a manner along "if you do not want your kid sister to read this material then do not post it" type of behaivour.
It is not a matter of "not learning the truth" or being prudish, but more out of respect for our fellow poster and to keep the maturity level high. Excatly because many of us are adults, we neither have the need nor desire to behave immature, and thus we moderate our language as we would talking to random people in real life.
It is also as much a matter of wanting to minimize possible problems which can arise seeing as this owner/administrator and hosting of this site is located within the USA, and to avoid issues, it is the site owners view that explicit sexual content and profanity etc has no place here.
But basically it is a matter of respect between yourself and the other people here.
We do discuss very mature topics, and we discuss sexual topics etc - especially in the Speak Your Mind section, however we keep them nonexplicit. And if you have a greater need to discuss the "american" view on such issues, then we've already had a number of them down in the Speak Your Mind section and you are more then welcome to go and drag them up/post new regarding this topic.

| | | This may not be "inappropriate" per say, but it is one heck of an annoying ad. It has a 70% chance of popping up everytime I go on the home page or forums of this website, and the Age of Empires 3 ad that is also a flash graphic, REALLY slows down my system if it doesn't crash Firefox. It has crashed firefox several times which is odd considering my system is fairly decent for its specs with DSL.
Just figured this'd be the best place to post it rather than PMing Buck or something. |

| | | I also encounter that bug too whenever that Age of Empires 3 advertisement was displayed.

This is a gap in my education I am not in a hurry to fill.
I didn't enjoy watching "Our girls are bursting out of seems" ad which was blinking in front of me while I was browsing GB forums just a couple of days ago.
I respect the right of any person to indulge in any sort of entertainment and I expect no less in return.
I may choose to watch whatever I please but I should not be forced to do so.
That's the distinction. It seems, there are some people on this forum who feel that their right NOT to watch things they consider borderline or over the board is violated. There is no need to call them names just because they are not so "open-minded" about filth.

| | | Is it possible to disable the sound in an advertisement? That bee/mosquito ad is just plain irritating and does nothing for making me pay attention to it.
As a matter of fact when it appears I immediately change to another webpage.
I know I can turn off my speakers but I do like to listen to msic while I surf and not the irritating sound of some bee/mosquito type thing buzzing to get my attention. |

| | I'd have to agree . I usually just refresh the page to get a different ad when it comes up. I'll pass this along to UGO and see if they can remove us from the ad's rotation. |

| | | I'm afraid I've had it with that mosquito ad, I'm going to have to give this site a miss until it's removed. I'll check in regularly, but as soon as it appears I'm out of her. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
