Day/Month/Year

That's how it's meant to be you silly Americans.

Is there a way to change the date above posts like the time settings? So it's just appears dd/mm/yyyy for me and anyone else who wants it while it appears as mm/dd/yyyy for everyone else. I recall being able to do it somewhere else and I think it was a vBulletin board.

EDIT: Just checked and it's a phpBB board.

I second that dd/mm/yyyy makes a lot more sense.

I wouldn't mind at all.

First of all, there's nothing silly about the different order, IMO. It's just like variations in spelling between the two continents; it's cultural and there's no "wrong" or "right." Being a schizophrenic Canadian who follows both traditions, I'm comfortable with either.

However, personally, I don't think it makes sense to have two different systems running concurrently, it would get confusing. GB is based in the US, so it seems only reasonable to go with that.

That's just my two cents anyway

I don't think he's saying that a personal birthday displays either way however the certain member wants it but rather everybody else's birthday displays however that certain member wants to view it.

So if I were to put in 07/19/1988 as my birthday, people could select a small option box in there profile saying I want to view it as 19/07/1988, and other members who keep it normal can keep it the same way as I put in.

Well, if that's the case, and it's the same concept as us individually selecting the time zone we want displayed, then I think it would be a good idea...
Hey, I could switch mine around each week, just to reflect that Canadians can never decide which system they want to follow.

That's what I mean but I was more referring to the date display over each post.

And that silly Americans thing was just tongue and cheek and I do not mean it as an insult. I apologise to anyone who has misinterpreted it.

No worries, I didn't feel insulted. I live in America and still wonder why we don't use some European or even world wide standards.

Like the metric system for example. To me, it makes perfect sense, it's much easier to understand at times, yet for some reason we don't like it here. Or daylight savings for example, we're the only country in the world to use this and until a year ago, Indiana (where I live) and Arizona didn't do it for some reason, but now we decided to just join in. Daylight savings, literally just meant for marketing purposes only (to have more time during the year for sports and outdoor events that get revenue), is just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If it did -Anything- good for the economy, and I mean anything, I wouldn't complain, but it doesn't, therefore making this rather useless.

But oh well I guess.

Don't know if the software will support it, but I see no reason otherwise why we shouldn't offer d/m/y instead of just m/d/y.

But I draw the line at GameBanshee driving down the left side of a road. That's insane.

@ Siberys

I don't know where you got the idea that the US is the only country using the daylight saving nonsense, 'cos it aint so Joe. We have the daft thing in the UK too, and I think many European countries do also.

Sorry for not responding to this sooner, I've been very busy. vBulletin allows me to change the date format, but it's a universal forum-wide change. I don't see any way to add a second format that users can just switch their profile to.

Therefore, the question would be whether or not the majority of people using this forum would prefer to leave it the way it is or switch it to DD/MM/YYYY or YYYY/MM/DD (ISO format). Since I've lived in the US my whole life, I prefer the way it is now, but I have no problem with switching it if the majority of members would like to see it changed.

If there is no way to run dual, I suspect keeping it as is would likely be best, as you can't get a majority of the forum users to vote anyway, so any such vote would be skewed in result.

IMO this is left to your devices to be honest.

(Personally - I always like the ISO format, but that's cause I'm a programmer)

As I've already got used to the current way of showing the date, I don't mind in keeping it as it is. So, I would vote for no changes, though I've nothing against the change.

Keep it as it is but if an option pops up in a better version I think it should be enabled.
