I have noticed some threads have stars, so I would like to ask some questions: What do these stars indicate, how do you vote for a thread and can you only vote for particular threads?

| | | I'm sure it was just included in vBulletin and there was no reason to get rid of it. I don't pay attention to it, but I do rate threads that I like or hate. I think it's maybe useful for really new users. Though post count in threads is just as big of an indicator of how popular a thread is, not how useful though. It may be more useful in the game forums than SYM though.

If I was looking for game information, I'd start by posting threads for what I needed, or looking at threads of specific interest to me. If I'm just interested in SYM, I'll again look for thread titles that interest me. Typically, very popular threads in spam-allowed forums means threads that are just open BS sessions.
