Question Banned person

I received a message of someone nicked Turing a little while ago. Hi, how are you doing, nothing more. I replied but never got an answer. I checked on this person's status just now and reads 'banned'.

I'm curious, what happened there?

... the person have been banned for some reason.

I'm not familiar with the specific "nick", and while I could check up on it, it is not custom for us to discuss banning with non-involve people, in which case I would not disclose such information.

Often a banning are "public", however some violations do require us to delete and/or modify posts, which makes it less clear to the "public" why a person might have been banned. Some accounts get banned for advertisements, or linking to pornographic sites, piracy sites and so on - and it is custom for us to delete such threads.
And it could be the case with the account in question, but as said - we rarely discuss the specifics of a particular banning outside moderator/Buck.

He sent me the same PM. "Hi. I'm new. How are you doing." He didn't have any posts to his name, only a link to a site on Buddhism.

This person also sent me a PM too a few days ago. I also replied back but never got a response.

After multiple abuse notifications on this account, I went ahead and banned it. I'm not sure it was even a real person. From the looks of it, it was just a spambot designed to PM everyone at a forum with a link to some bizarre website.

Oh yeah, that's right! First I thought the guy was just being nice, but when I saw the website, I thought, "This guy is trying to convert me or something!" Sort of nice in the soliciting way.

And to think I responded to his friendliness! I feel used!

Well the link was in his or her signature. Awkward, but I have seen stranger things in signatures around here.

Seeing as Buck has explained his actions et al, I'm closing this thread to avoid it getting turned off-topic.
