| | | "I'll go to the harbourmaster. He's a tough man, but I have a way with words, so I probably stand the best chance. As for Tway, I don't she's likely to let you out her sight, she wouldn't want anything to happen to you." Though the're likely to make something happen to her, Kron muttered under his breath. "Besides, I need the sea air to clear my head, it's the most talking I've ever done to humans in a long time, without someone winding up dead afterwards." With one last glance, Kron pulled his cloak tight over him, "Can't be too careful, ignorant peasants love me," and left the building, heading towards the harbour. |

| | | Tway shook her head fiercly at Sh'rarn's statement and nodded furiously at Kron's. "Aye, the elf is right, I should stick with you Sh'rarn, there is little I could learn from the inns that could not be learnt from the harbourmaster, if nothing at all. And besides, a big city like this, an honourable man like yourself would be hard-pressed not to wind up in a spot of bother. Best stick with me" that of course was only a fraction of the reason why she didn't want to let Sh'rarn out of her sight...

| | | Sh'rarn nodded. "Okay. You're with me". He was glad to have her along anyway. "Good luck with the harbourmaster, Kron. We'll meet back here at dusk".
Tway slipped her arm in his and they went off to the shrine together. He didn't complain about her doing that either. Must be getting used to it and it didn't feel like he was taking advantage of her either. |

| | | Kron walked with a purpose. He strode towards the harbour; however he knew there were dangerous parts to Baldur’s Gate. If his heritage was discovered, it could prove fatal, which is why Kron was patting his pockets, making sure the dagger and loaded crossbow were in reach.
He reached the harbour without any difficulties. Asking around, he learnt that the harbour master was in his office, organising schedules. Apparently, he was in a charitable mood because a ship captain had lied about his cargo, allowing the harbourmaster to seize much more in tax. Entering the office, Kron was sure to cover up his features to prevent the hostilities beginning so early. “Greetings harbourmaster. I would like to know about the island Sterenear. What is it that you know of it?” “Greetings young adventurer. We have been reducing our travelling of ships to the island. So there is not that much that we know for sure, only rumours, why is it that you wish to know?” “I and some other comrades wish to travel to this island. Our reasons I will keep secret, I am neither one to boast nor one to be famous.” “Very well. I know that the three races, Humans, Dwarves and Elves are failing to co-operate to remove an Orc infestation. The Dwarves are believed to have gained a new source of metal, very rare. Undead related problems have started occurring. And finally, the Elven Kingdom is going to host a feast for all cousins, except of course the vile Drow, who deserve to be killed.”
Kron would have previously jumped up in anger, or killed the man outright, however now he was used to it. “Thankyou for your information.” However he did not take that Drow insulting lightly. “That’s an amazing ship over there, what does it port?” Pointing out the window, Kron quickly pocketed a logbook when the man looked away. That was fair revenge for offending his race. “Whatever pays the best, now if you excuse me I have to work.” “Of course, thankyou for your time.” Kron was pleased. Not only had he gained some information, but he had caused trouble for one who was anti-Drow. Now, what to do… |

| | | Tway happily slid her arm through Sh'rarn's, overjoyed at how easily the action came now. For the third time that day Tway made her way along the roads leading to the Shrine of the Red Knight. Again the small, if impressive red and white structure loomed before her; without hesitating she followed Sh'rarn in. A few of the acolytes threw her questioning look, clearly curious about her actions previously. She merely threw them off, pressing slightly closer to Sh'rarn's side, but giving no other indication that she noticed the stares...

| | | Many of the acolytes seemed to have read between the lines and believed that there was more going on between Tway and Sh'rarn. He ignored them though and continued to the main antechamber of the building where the hierophant was located.
"Can you tell us anything of Sterenear, wise one?" asked Sh'rarn.
"I believe you already know as much as I about the island. However, I do have something that may help". He presented a roll of parchment and gave it to Sh'rarn.
"What is it?"
"The parchment contains a map of the island. Such a thing will likely prove most useful when you arrive". |

| | | Pleasantly pleased with himself, Kron decided to visit a tavern where sailors often frequented. Heading up to the bartender, he asked if any sailors were from Sterenear. He pointed at a grubby goblin-looking man in the corner. Striding across, he knew the man wouldn’t talk without a beer, so rather than wasting his money, he ‘borrowed’ a beer from a man who was slumped in his chair passed out. “Hello.” “No talk, just beer.” “Here, enjoy” Kron handed him the drink. “Whadda want?” “Could you tell me about Sterenear?” “Ste-re-near, you-want to know- about –STERENEAR? I’ll tell you, stay away, STAY AWAY. GO AWAY GO AWAY I DON’T KNOW ANYTHING!”
Kron knew he would get nothing more, so he walked out without a word. It was nearly time to return anyway, so he started heading back to the inn. He wasn’t paying attention to what was happening, and didn’t notice a child sneak up behind him and start going through his pockets. Suddenly he heard coins jangle, and whipped around, grabbing the child by the neck. The child began to struggle and he pulled off part of Kron’s cloak. The kid stopped immediately and screamed, “DROW! HE’S A DROW! A DROW IS IN BALDUR’S GATE!”
Letting go of the child, Kron ran as the crowd started after him. Firing a quick ray of frost back, knocking back the pursuers. He didn’t pay attention to where we was running, he just ran. Suddenly the temple loomed out of nowhere, it was a place to hide. Casting darkness, he snuck into the temple when no one was watching. As soon as he entered, he ran straight to Sh’rarn. |

| | | Sh'rarn heard a clattering noise coming from the direction of the entrance. Curious he wandered towards the room exit, only for the door to open and Kron to collide with him. They picked themselves up from the floor only to hear a crowd had gathered outside.
"What happened?!" Sh'rarn asked angrily. |

| | | "Drow happened." Rasped Kron panting. "Being robbed, identity revealed, mob chased, injured a few, think they are outside. We have to do something before they find me." |

| | | Sh'rarn sighed. "You never do things by half-measures, do you?!". Turning to the hierophant he asked, "Is there anything you can do for him? He hasn't commited any crimes and so deserves shelter."
The hierophant thought it over, "Perhaps he can be disguised as an acolyte".
"You mean in the robes?"
The hierophant smiled, "Better, a spell of illusion".
"Okay, do it."
The hierophant cast the spell which transformed Kron into a guise similar to many of the others, complete with the trappings of the faith. A minute later, the crowd ringleader burst in, "Did you see the Drow elf?". As much as it pained Sh'rarn to lie, he knew it was to save an innocent's life and so he denied it. The ringleader, believing a holy order would never willingly shelter a dark elf exited the building and the crowd moved on. When they were sure that the crowd had fully dispersed, the hierophant dismissed the spell and Kron once again stood before them. |

| | | "Feels good to be back in my skin." He walked up to the hierophant and clapped him on the back. "I was wrong about you hierophant, you are a good man afterall. You are a worthy holder of this title. Also, I owe you, you can recall this favour when you choose to, it will remain for life, I have run from crowds before, but I am too weak after my earlier efforts of taking the spell for Tway, I could never have survived. I shall remember this hierophant."
Going back to Tway and Sh'rarn, Kron briefly summarised the rumours he knew, and the sailor's reactions. Sh'rarn then showed him the map which he had been given before. "Well, we have a map and rumours, what now?" |

| | | As Kron charged in and pleaded his case, Tway couldn't help it when a smile touched her lips. Whilst she had no wish to see any harm come to the Drow, she couldn't help but experience some mirth at his expense. Besides, the priests wouldn't let any harm come to him... right? A quick illusion spell and the trouble was passed. "Aye, we have all the information we can garner here in Baldur's Gate, perhaps a powerful wizard or sorcerer could give us more, but the arcane services never come cheap, and if you gentlemen are at all like me in that respect we have little coin." She paused, giving the Aasimar and the Drow time to react before continuing. "Methinks we would be best off getting aquiring passage as soon as possible, for a ship may be docking right away." Pleased with here perspective, Tway crossed her arms under her breasts and waited again for the men to reply...

| | | Sh'rarn thought it over, "I know of no wizards in Baldur's Gate anyway, so it would likely be best to inquire about passage..."
"Wait", the hierophant interrupted, "I know of someone who could help, free of charge. Mayhaps he will be able to scry what is happening on Sterenear."
"Oh? Who is this wizard? And can he be trusted?"
"Yes, yes he can. He is a good friend of mine. His name is Tiro Abonnen". The hierophant then gave directions to the wizard's abode.
"This could help. Thank you." Turning to Kron he said, "that crowd is probably still searching around the city looking especially for cloaked figures. It would be best if you stayed here for now." Kron was obviously reluctant, no doubt partly due to the treatment he received the last time, but he nodded. "We'll be back later on", Sh'rarn said to both the hierophant and Kron. |

| | | "Very well, as much as it pains me to miss out, I realise it is probably for the best. Besides, I'm sure you want some time alone, without this bothersome Drow. Now, seeing as I'm going to be cooped up here, would you mind if I were to use your library, and perhaps practice with my crossbow?" |

| | | Responding to Kron, the hierophant answered, "Of course, one of our acolytes shall show you around."
"Right, we better get going" Sh'rarn said, "have fun, Kron".
Leaving the shrine of the Red Knight, Sh'rarn and Tway walked to an unfamiliar part of the city, carefully avoiding the crowd who was looking for Kron and checking under people's cowls. If they reacted in the way they had to Kron that who knew what their reaction to Twaynith could possibly be. Sh'rarn definitely wanted to avoid anything like that happening.
10 minutes later they arrived at Abonnen's tower, a grand affair with many perched statuesque gargoyles and other decorative features. A bit too grand for Sh'rarn's taste. Knocking on the door prompted a servant to answer who was obviously recluctant to show them to his master. Mentioning the hierophant did the trick though, and they were shown to a study lined with books and a small fire burning away in an elegant fireplace.
"My master, Sh'rarn of the Red Knights is here to see you. The hierophant of the order sent him."
"My thanks", said the wizard who then dismissed the servant. "So" he stated, "what do you want?". | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
