Star Trek RPG

Howdy, y'all. The new Star Wars story CodyCarson is working on gave me an idea: why not start a Star Trek RPG, call it Rogue Brigade.

Basically, the idea is that we are a benevolent taskforce made up of Humans, Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, and any other race you want to play (even a rogue Jem'Hadar, why not?) Anyway, we control a small number of ships, say 6-8, and we will describe these as well. So, anyone interested, you may join and state your character, and if you wish, a ship as well, though we will come to ships when we have enough people. You may create several characters, like a chief and subordinates. The format is as follows:

Name:
Species:
Gender:
Age:
Height (m or in, it matters not):
Weight (kg or lbs, it matters not):
Planet of Birth (optional):
Main Character or Secondary Character:
Class (Warrior, Spy, Engineer, Doctor, etc):
Rank (Ensign, Junior Lieutenant, Lieutenant, Lt Commander, Commander, Captain):
Alignment (like in D&D):
D&D Ability Scores (I will describe racial adjustments shortly):
STR:
DEX:
CON:
INT:
WIS:
CHA:
Equipment:

You may also include a biography, if you wish.

As for the Ship, that will be as follows (www.ditl.org is a good site):

Name: (Prefix will be Alliance Space Ship, or ASS, as I just figured out to my dismay )
Class:
Crew complement:
Armament:
Race (Like Klingon K'Vort, or Cardassian Galor):

Also, as far as ships go, we can have no more than 6 or 7, and they can't be really good. They can be new but small, or medium and old. However, we are not going to have a Defiant class or a Vor'Cha class in a rogue faction. Basically, we can have the kind of ship you can salvage, and the kind of ship a Government is willing to donate. The absolute best we can have is Excelsior Class.

Ok, now, Racial Adjustments and Alignments:

Human: LG (No Adjustments)
Klingon: LG (+3 STR, +3 CON, -1 INT, -3 WIS)
Romulan: LN (+2 INT, +2 CHA)
Vulcan: LG (+2 STR, +2 DEX, +2 CON, +4 INT, +4 WIS, -2 CHA)
Bajoran: CG (+1 DEX, +1 INT, +3 WIS, +1 CHA)
Cardassian: LN (+3 INT, +1 WIS, +4 CHA)
Jem'Hadar: LN (+2 STR, +2 DEX, +2 CON, -1 INT, -2 WIS)
Ferengi: TN (+1 DEX, +1 CON, +4 CHA)
Trill: LG (+3 INT, +6 WIS, +2 CHA)
Betazoid: LG (+3 INT, +3 WIS, +4 CHA)

That's all I can think of for now, so if you want a different race, read up on it or ditl.org and set your own adjustments. Alignments are default for the races, but you can be of any alignment. Most people in our group should be some form of Good, though.

The year is 2374, just after first contact with the Dominion.

I hope this actually grows past the larval stage.

You forgot to specify gender for these folks. Also, why did you mke the vulcan so weak?

More to the point, I forgot to specify that gender was a required field. I also added name to the ship fields.

He has a INT of 20! Plus he has nothing below 10. I'd say he's pretty damn strong!

Star Trek is interesting though. I'm not sure if I know enough about it though. I watched all Start Treks (mostly) but hated B5...

Vulcan has intelligence of 20, but Vulcans, for all their intelligence, are also physically much stronger than humans. Almost as strong as Klingons!

Still, I am sure physically weak Vulcans have existed.

I would just like to note for the record that the racial modifiers you've bestowed upon the races seem rather arbitrary. Namely in the fact that there are some massive bonus' with only minor drawbacks to offset each species (particular note falling on the Vulcans).

Not all species have setbacks to balance their bonuses. Vulcans, for instance, are both stronger and smarter than Humans, hence the STR, DEX, CON, INT, and WIS bonus, but they are slow to socialize, and completely dispassionate, hence the CHA penalty. I believe that the scores are correct, or at least adequate, but if you wish to dispute that, it is your right.

Also, bear in mind that score adjustments only move max and min values up or down, so you could still have a Vulcan of average STR, like the one submitted by CM. I have never seen an episode with a weak Vulcan in it, but I suppose it's possible.

If you do wish to dispute the scores, I request that you please explain why.

PLEEEEEEEEEASE?

You just need a character. for the most part, it's just regular space stuff, and we will be discussing it. Anyway, you don't have to if you don't want to, but I think it's going to be great. Still, it is your choice. Know that you are always welcome to join later if you wish.

Spoken like Garak (Season 4, episode 1 of DS9: "The Way of the Warrior")
Gul Dukat: "Just remember when you fire that thing, you're pointing it at a Klingon."
Elim Garak: "I'll try to keep that in mind."

Dispute? Well, simply put, in the Star Trek d20 system, all racial modifiers have been developed, and balanced for play. I'd say that's pretty goods grounds for dispute. Not only that, but racial modifiers are slight modifications, often with negatives to offset them. In the case of the Vulcans, they are stronger, and tougher. They are not necessarily smarter, or wiser than a human. You're mistaking the logical aspect of the race for intelligence. If anything, that might accord for a slight boost to wisdom, but not both INT and WIS.

Also, in the sake of balancing, having numerous +2 and above modifiers is horribly unbalanced, whether in use or not, especially when there is real negative ability to offset it (in this case, -4 CHA for vulcans is hardly enough for balancing sake.) Especially without the inclusion of level adjustments.

I really could continue, but the more I say, the more I troll, so I feel as though I've explained my position well enough.
