Can Herve Pull it Off?

What do you think? If Interplay really has a $75 million budget to work with (according to their Fallout Online presentation), could they assemble a team and truly build a solid Fallout MMORPG? Would any talented game developers actually work for Herve after watching what he's done to Interplay over the past several years?

Short answer: no.

I mean, a theoretical question-line of If If If can surely end up with a "yes", but I have my doubts that's even really what Herve intends to do, and even if it is, he kicked too many shins, which is ironically quite similar to how Brian Fargo managed to get enough people to hate him to doom the company.

It would be nice to see a non fantasy MMORPG show up and last were others have failed. Hopefully he'll be smart enough to see that the standard MMORPG format (aka endless grinding) isn't going to work as well as it used to thanks mostly to World of Warcraft and come up with something new.

Maybe something similar to Guild Wars would be the right way to go. An instanced world would work very well in simulating the endless wasteland devoid of life bit.

How can you claim "endless grind" doesn't work, and then point to WoW which basically is nothing but an endless grind, once you reach level cap?

The only driving force in WoW is equipment and items, and the grind for these.

I agree with the previous posters. It won't work. While it may make a great MMO, the RPG aspect will be lost and so will the feel of Fallout. I imagine it as WoW except that the non-human races are replaced by robots, Deathclaws, Zombies and Mutants... possibly dogs.

Something like.. Stalker. I've played the game just a little and done a few quests.. But, it looks right. That would be great.

But since they are seeing wow as their "competitor" this shows they are competing for the 13 year old homo grindus lot, so I have no more hopes for Fallout Online than I have for Fallout 3 (which is quite close to nil).
