So I have been playing fallout 3 for a while now. And suddenly it starts to crash. On my save I have played 35 hours without problems at all. And all of a sudden this happens.
This happened the first time when I traveled to Rivet city. I was doing the quest where you put explosive collars on people. And when I go out again the game crashes either on the loading screen, or it happens after 10 sec - 3 min in the wasteland. If I go back to earlier saves this doesen't happen, but after some time it will either way. I'm not even sure what triggers the crashes

Hope some one has a solution for this

Are you playing on PC or Xbox, and if you are playing PC, are you using any mods(there are mods on PC, right?)

Yesterday, but the crashes started before I installed it. I installed it to see if the crashes would stop.

I noticed now that these crashes only happens when I fast travel to either Anacostia station or Rivet city. They either happen on the FT loading, or when I go into a new area after being there. This happens every time.
So basicly I can't go to anacostia or Rivet city again, as this completly kills my saves

Anybody know this problem, and a solution for it?

Backup your save files, and reinstall the game. That could help, though not 100% sure.

The problem sounds like bug or something has got corrupted, my money is on the first one. In both cases reinstalling should help, though not sure if it affects saves from previous installation.

With the old saves?
Is you disc scratched or dirty?

Besides that all I can think of is that the reinstallation didn't affect old saves, and thus you must restart.

Sometimes, Games get corrupted, especially saved games. From the sounds of things, this may be happening.

Think I know the reason for the crashes. I think it has do do with the followers and their AI scripts. Found a forum that describes almost the exact same problem I'm having.. Not so good with stuff like that myself, check it out and see if you find any solutions That would be great

Unforfounately I'm way past that point, and I don't think I have saves that far back.
It really pisses me of that every game I play these days you have to dodge these massive save killing bugs. Happened to me on Swkotor I and II, and now Fallout 3.
It's almost impossible to play through these games without hitting any bug. We shouldn't have to worry about this stuff! I'm going to play Heroes III now

You don't even have a save where you have yet to enter Rivet City? I think that would suffice. As long as you tell your companion to stay put, the problem should be solved.

Yeah, I know the feeling. Most people usually circumvent these kinda irritations by having multiple saves that go way back. I make mine at 30 minutes to 1 hour intervals, and rotate the saves over 6 or 7 files, with a semi-permanent checkpoint thrown in every couple of days or so. The redundancy is well worth it should I encounter bugs of this sort.
