Why won't Mr Wright's son let me talk to him?

I talked to both the sons. The one at the train station and the one at the house. Even popped a Mentat. But no, was not getting the dialogue to enter Mr W's room. So no quests...Have done the still quest for Mrs W, would that be a problem? Thanks for any help.

The one you must talk is Keith.
There is few conditions which you must pass before Keith will give you the permission to talk the Mr. Wright.

1. You can't be tagged as berzerker or child killer
2. your karma must not be lower than -101
3. You must pass Speech skill -check. This check is harder if you are slaver.

So, the quest from Mrs Wright doesn't have anything to do with your problem. I think your character doesn't pass one or more of the conditions described above.

Thank you Kipi. My CH is 7 and I'm not berserk (yet...) or a child killer. So must be the speech, will check.

I think I had a high CHA of at least 7, my speech was over 90%, my Karma was high, and I was a child killer. (I was involved with homeless attacking farmers. They all showed as red, so I killed them all, mwuhahahahahaa.) I got the quest okay.

Kipi and Lazigothi, Thank you for your advice, however, I am getting v. frustrated. My Charisma is 8, Karma 'Defender of the Wastes', speech-craft 71%, not a child molester/killer/beserker/slaver and my rating in New Reno is 'idolized' (I have taken out the Mr Bishop and his gang, Big Jesus and his boys and Salvatore and his lot). I have spoken to Chris (Think that is his name, looks like Ian in F/1) at train station, and Keith at Wright's house but still no dialogue for quests (just 'I ran into your mom' bit of chat then end of story). Is it still the speech thing? How high does it have to be? Failing that, do I have a Wright family glitch, never did get the Louisville slugger from Mr W after destroying the still without hurting a fly! Was in the middle of taking out the family when my game froze, must be karma!

What's your total karma in number?
Also, do you have any such tag like Pornstar? I think especially the pornstar tag causes some to look you down...

When you talk to mr Wright, does the dialogies give any hint that he might not like you?

No, I never get close enough to find out what his thoughts are! His son Keith doesn't give me the opportunity to meet him and starts shooting if I open his father's door. Could it be anything to do with what I have in my inventory? I usually have some Jet on me (although not a user) and I know one of Mr W's quests is to do with finding the killer of his son Richard who was a Jet user (having read it on the walkthough). Grasping at straws here...

Are you a "Made Man" for any other family? I would also wonder of destroying the stills might have done something.

Assuming things are normal, I had problems getting anyone to talk to me when I had all the patches installed (1.02, 1.04, and 1.05) in some spots, including anyone in the Wright House. When I tossed all but 1.05, I was able to talk to people again.

Hi Lazigothi, thanks for your thoughts. No a 'made man', avoided that by taking out the other families after the quests. But no Louisville slugger from Mrs Wright, curious. Maybe destroying the still was a factor, although Kipi thinks not. I'll just keep going back on the off-chance when I'm in Reno. But greater tasks lie ahead. Onwards and upwards (was that Superman who said that? Nah, just kidding). Thanks to everyone for their advice and help.

lower Keiths PE by using booze on him, save, hit sneak and open the door and initiate dialogue with Mr. Wright.. You need to sneak to initiate dialogue or they will turn hostile, but it is a way around your predicament. Finger a suspect or complete quest 1 and you will get SAD on your map with quest 2.

Blumpkin, you are a genius, sounds like a serious plan!! Ended up playing the game without the Wright's quests and it worked okay. Now doing Tactics, which is very different in the way it feels.
Like FO2 best so far,so looking forward to revisiting New Reno and deploying your tactics...
