v1.05

So, I'm starting to play Fallout 2 again. I search around the necessary patches, and I notice some talk about an unofficial patch. I searched the forum, but couldn't find any posts that really explained what it did. So, could someone enlighten me to the benefits or disadvantages of v1.05?

Well, the patch fixes quite a lot of bugs and finally allows you to finish the brahmin mutilation problem in Klamath. The patch also tweaks the game a bit, and one of the things I can recall is having more random encounters, which can get pretty frustrating at the beginning, but once you level up a bit, it's actually a very good thing if you want more experience (who doesn't? )

It's definetely worth downloading, that's for sure

I see.

I've already installed v1.02, and I've played for a few hours. Will installing the unofficial patch corrupt any saved games?

As far as I can recall, the patch doesn't corrupt the savegame files, but It's not that I installed the patch a few days ago, so I can't be 100% sure about that...
Maybe Kipi will have more to say on this matter

AFAIK you have to restart after patching.
Does v1.05 include v1.03 and v1.04?

IIRC it does, or if not directly then at least by having most of the same fixes which can been found from those two patch.

And yes, I think you must start a new game. I'm not sure if the game does allow you to load games from older versions, but if it does then at least there may be some serious crashes caused by differences between the patches...
For example, the areas you have already visited may have been corrupted somehow, or that not nearly all fixes take place in areas which you have already visited...

So, I recomend starting a new game

EDIT: I have to mention this, but even though it's mentioned in the list of fixes, as far as I have experienced it you can't still solve the brahmn mutilation, or at least not as easily as it was meant... You need different patch to fix that...

Thanks for the information. I've got another question: can I install v1.05 right after installation or is there a presribed order with all other patches?

Well, it depends...
Do you have the version of the game which contains children? If you do, then I would suggest that you install 1.02, then 1.05. But if you don't, then you need also children patch, which if I remember correctly must be installed AFTER 1.02...

I've got the American version. I'll do it in order to play it safe.

The American version doesn't need the children's patch. Personally I'd install all the patches (1.02, 1.03, .104, 1.05, in that order) to be sure you've got all the fixes. Plus you could check out the download section of No Mutants Allowed. This thread might also be interesting.
