The Glow (spoilers)

I'm not sure if this thread should be posted here or in the F1 section, but anyway, if there's a problem, let the admin close it

As some people may think this could contain spoilers or something, then let's warn them first:

SPOILERS not concerning only F2 but F1 as well.

***

Actually, I have a question about the 'Glow'. There's been a long time since the last time I played this game, but something just got stuck in my mind, and that is concerning the nature of 'the Glow'. As far as I know, 'the Glow' used to be a military base, or such, that was nuked during the U.S vs China's war. But not all the stuff were destroyed, and that includes a computer located in the deepest level (5 or 6 I think). I don't really remember the name of it, but you could 'speak' to him and the answers he gave me is the problem which I'm trying to talk about.

It says someting about the AI (in fact, itself), and how that could have started the war. Question 1) is that a conclusion or just a supposition that the machine made? As I think it couldn't make such a supposition, I took it as a conclusion. So, can I really say the war started because of the AI or should I stick to the former explanation (the lack of energetic resources) which has been given in the F1 intro? Or are this both things related and the game creators left it to the mind of the player?

Now, talkin' about game concepts, it is known that you can play chess with the computer, but it's damn hard to win. In fact, I thought it was impossible. But I have friends who told me they won, however they haven't told me what happens next. Plus, I saw in some other forums that you actually can beat the computer in chess. Now I ask you, is it possible to beat him? and if it is, what happens then? the computer enter in self-destruction?

And, to finally finish it, were the Vaults an experiment of the Enclave? I think the U.S president mentions that, but, how come that's true? I mean, all the trouble you had in F1 was caused just because someone wanted to see how humans react in certain situations? I really hate when things like that happens... (you know, it destroyed all the fun I had while playing F1 :S, but, whatever, maybe I'm just crazy ). And if it was really an experiment, why would them do such a thing? I can think of no reasonable use to a research with that data.

whoofs.. I think I'm done... these lines were more like reflections than a question... anyway, you can say your opinion about it if you want to.. (i appreciate that )

ty for your time fellas

Ok, first things first, this is mostly related to Fallout 1, but what the heck.

About the Glow. Yeah, it was an old US military base nuked during the war (or it was a nuke testing gone wrong, i'm not 100% sure about that).

Now, as far as I was able to figure out, the war itself started because the AI in charge of the nuclear weaponry went berserk, so the AI is responsible for the war. The lack of resources itself, however, just led to another Cold war, this time with China. Again, this is my presumption, which probably isn't correct.

Anyway, you can beat the computer down there, but you need very high intelligence and you need to make a luck roll, but I don't know exactly how's it achieved because I actually never bothered to beat the computer.

Now, off to something I'm mostly sure about.
As you already know, the vaults were a US project developed to protect their inhabitants of nuclear blasts and radiation, but they were actually a massive social experiment. Some vaults only had men in them, some didn't have enough supplies, some had too many people in them, blah, blah. Anyway, the Enclave is the remnant of the former US government, so that's why they know all the details about the Vault project.
Now, why would the government do something like that... Well, if all vaults were intended to save the population, there wouldn't be an interesting background to the Fallout storyline.

You can read about the vaults stuff in the Fallout Bible.
