My first suggestion would be this:

Also, have you fresh game or is it bought as "used"?

Do you have any chances to test the cd in other computer? This could help to narrow the problem either to your computer or to the cd itself...

Also, even though the game is new, have you checked if there is dirt or scratches in the cd? I have bought few games which turned out to be dirty/scratched...

What exactly happens when you put the game cd in your computer (the new one)?
Do you get autorun -menu, where you can select to install the game?

Firstly, I don't recommend to remove Service Pack 2. Yes, it seems to cause some strange things, but is far more important to have it installed than one game. Only uninstall it in your own risk.

Secondly, have you tried to run the setup from the folder? I mean, use MyComputer to go to cd, the run the setup.exe (or install.exe).

Eeech... Sold Out is quite infamously known for its bad autoplays. As Kipi said, you should try running the setup directly from the CD. And finally, as a last resort (although I'd do that right away ), you could install and play the game on your old PC.

I encountered similar situation installing it on mx friends computer. In the end we lowered colour quality to 16 bit, and installation worked. Later after game was installed returned it to 32, and it still worked even on 1024x768.

My english isn't perfect so make someone else explain you how to find it - approximately - right mouse button on desktop->properties->settings->right lower window.
