One Handed question

What does one handed do, exactly?

I tried to figure it out on my own, but am at a point of confusion.

When it comes to punching, kicking, and using small guns, the One handed trait ups all of the damage I do by 3 points, and it does not alter my to-hit chance at all.

For example, throughtout Arroyo and Klamath, my listed punch damage was 1-3, but I always dealt 4-6. My 10mm pistol was affected in the same way.

This is the part that confuses me: My knife does not get the damage bonus, or a bonus to-hit chance, and I recieve no penalty for using a sledgehammer (this is a two handed weapon, right?). So, my to-hit percentage is exactly the same with the knife or the sledgehammer, and they both deal their listed damage.

Ummm... What does this trait do?!?!

Yes, your unarmed/melee/small guns do more damage, but you can't use any 2-handed guns, like flamer, minigun or bozar.
