New Reno(beware of spoilers)

In my previous runs threw FO2 ive always skipped new reno except for the "new reno arms" store. this time i want to join one of the families here...are there any pros/cons between each one?

Doing quests for the Wright family gives access to the Sierra Arms area where you can find (some) goodies (not exceptionel but okay goodies, it was the first area where I found the Sniper Rifle by the way).

Doing quests for Mordino gives access to the "Stables" where you can pick up the scientist guy Myron.

But remember - you can do almost all of the quests for the families (just don't expect to work on quests for other families if you have been made a "made man").

Also - regardless of family I think - you can get discount from the arms shop as a made man.

These was about what I could remember presently.

Sounds like you've been skipping half the game. Here's some tips on how to play New Reno to maximize the experience:

Talk to the drug dealer near where you first park your car. Pay him for info on all four families and get on his good side.

Talk to the gun dealer and ask him about the laser guns that the Salvatore family has. Offer to get him one.

Go to Mr. Salvatore (2nd floor) and ask him for work. Find the guy that owes him money. Collect the money and return all of it to Mr. Salvatore (the guy is hiding in the basement of the Mordino club). Make him take you to Golgatha and make him dig up the hiding place (its booby trapped). He lets you keep half. Get another quest from him to collect money from Renesco. Don't do that yet.

Go to Little Jesus Mordino (by the bar in the Mordino club) and talk to him. Ask him about a job. See old man Mordino on the second floor and get work. Deliver the briefcase to the guy at the Stables. If your INT is high enough you will find out that that guy has been shooting up lots of Jet. Mordino will tell you that the briefcase contained poisoned Jet and that he know about the guy cheating him. He expects the guy to die from the Jet in the briefcase you delivered. Now get another job from him - this one is to collect money from the porn film makers at the Golden Globes. Don't hurt them, just collect the money. Don't let them 'Star' you in a porn film or your party will leave you. Don't go back to Mordino yet.

Now, go to the Train Station (go to Bishops club and head east to a new area). Go into the old train station (pair of double doors at the far right and top of the area). You will meet one of the Wright boys. Talk nice to him and ask him about work. Now head south to the Wright house and go inside. Talk to the man (another Wright family member - they're all Wrights in fact) and tell him the other son told you to ask about work. He will let you in to see old man Wright. He is distraught about the death of one of his sons. He wants you to ask around and find out who killed him with bad Jet. Go back to the son that's outside the old man's room and ask him if you can search the room of the dead son. If your INT is high enough he will let you do this. Search the room (just below where Mrs. Wrights room is) and you will find a unique Jet container in the bookshelf. Take this to the two Jet dealers and to Little Jesus. Ask them nicely if they have any idea who killed the Wright kid. All clues lead you to Renesco. Confront Renseco and he will spill his guts. Turns out he used Radscorpion venom in the Jet vial on the orders of Mr. Salvatore. Report back to Mr. Wright. He will give you a quest to find a way into the Sierra Military Base. Take a sniper rifle with you for this job. If you don't have one wander around the vicinity of New Reno until you run into some mobsters (usually fighting another group). Kill them - they should have some sniper rifles on them. Leave your guys at the entry point of the Sierra base - this is a solo job. Use the sniper rifle to shoot out the gun turrets. You have to time it so you can step into range, fire a shot, and step back behind cover all in one turn. I'll let you figure out the rest of Sierra (its a long story). Don't tell Mr. Wright yet as he will make you a Made Man at this point.

Now go back and finish the quests for Mordino and Salvatore. Mordino will now ask you to kill old man Salvatore. Now demand payment from Renesco - he will tell you to pound sand. If your INT (or maybe CHR) is high enough you can dictate your terms to him. Tell him you will pay the debt but that he will owe you. Demand that he sells you stuff at bargain prices. Now buy all his good stuff really cheap. Before you kill Salvatore report back to him on Renesco and get him to give you another quest. He will have you go to a meeting with the Enclave. If you play it right he will give you a laser pistol (you can take it to the gun dealer to complete that quest). Go to the meeting. After the big scene you can either leave or try to kill the Enclave and Salvatore people. Now go back and kill Mr. Salvotore. The sneaky way to kill him without a big fight is to switch out his oxygen tank for a tank of poison gas (found in the basement of the Mordino club). You can only do this if you don't fight the Enclave. You will need the oxgen to complete the quest for the Broken Hills mine quest. Otherwise just waste the Salvatores (Tesla armor makes this an easy fight - you have to go to San Fran for it though). Go back to Mordino. He will offer to make you a Made Man. Decline it and he and his goons will attack you - a long tough fight. It helps to pickpocket everyone in the club for their ammo, stimpaks and weapons ahead of time. Kil them all. Now you can go back to the Stables and kill them all (hopefully you pickpocketed all the guards of their weapons on your first trip there). You can find Myron in the secret basement if you like. You can get him to join you, make drugs for you and if your INT is high enough figure out a cure for Jet.

Now deliver the briefcase you got at Vault City (you did offer the guy in Vault City to deliver the brief case didn't you?) to Mr. Bishop. But don't forget to "do" his wife first. Sleep with her, get the combo to her safe and then deliver the briefcase. Offer to do another job for Bishop. He want you to kill a rancher in NCR. Go there and the guy offers you a counter-proposal. He will double the fee if you kill Bishop instead. Take the job and kill Bishop and wipe out his entire club (again, pickpocketing everyone for their loot helps). You can sleep with his daughter as well. Search the bedroom safes and find a map of the raiders hideout. The raiders who've been attacking Vault City are working for Bishop.

Now with all three families dead, go back to Mr. Wright and tell him you found a way into Sierra. He will make you a Made Man. Pick a name to go by. If you talk to the drunk priest (near the gun dealers) he will tell you about Mrs. Wright. She doesn't know her husband is still bootlegging. She will ask you to shut down the still (in the basement of the train station). I normally skip this quest as I like my whiskey and I ain't about to shut down anyone's still cuz their wife is a tea-totalling nut case).

Only thing left to do in town is to become a prize figher. Go into the basement of Bishop's club and check the lockers for some boxing gloves with metal plates in them. Go the the fight arena, pop some Buffout and that other injection (forgot the name of it). This drug combo makes you near impervious to damage (good to know this for any tough fight) and boosts your STR a few points. Slug your way to fame and earn the title of Champion.

Thats about it. New Reno is the crux of the game. It helps to have high INT when you do it. If not natural INT, then drug induced INT. Good luck.

xan LOL thats exactly what im gonna do next...im gonna take a female character with sneak, steal, and lock pick (not sure what weapon skill) with sex appeal, and another trait with high cha, end, and agility :P

And you need much "experience". When they told me to come back when I'm more experienced I went straight to the "Cat's Paw" and made myself an experienced man....but that didn't change a thing.

No one will join you again. Its like the childkiller taint. Once you're labeled with it everyone reacts to it. Its tempting but not worth it. Its like marrying the girl in Modoc - you can do it with the right stats but she's a horrible traveling companion - about as bad as Myron. Speaking of Myron, besides brainstorming with him on a cure for Jet you can take him to Sierra and extract his brain. The brain can be used to make a robot which kicks butt when equipped with an impulse rifle.

Also don't forget to get your car beefed up. It will be stolen and taken to a garage. Talk to the drug dealer and make him take you to the garage. Don't piss off the garage guys. Just make them a better offer than Bishop is paying them. They sell you the car and make it run better and store more stuff.

Update: I made a female character to take threw the game(not to be a porno star) and accidently slept with metzger and became a gigilo. then old weezy mob boss wouldnt let me work for him cuz i was female >.< he ended up hostiling me and i killed everyone till i ran out of ammo

BTW whats a good none-burst weapon for marcus? the big guy cant seem to stop hitting any of my party

One in the same. You can talk him into joining your party. He will make drugs for you such as stimpacks, super stimpacks, poison antedote, etc. He's lousy with a weapon and has very little strength. If you want him for more than his brain you can slip him some power armor but he will still suck with weapons. You only need his brain for the robot if you can't retrieve the only other human brain out of storage (it explodes if your INT and science aren't high enough). If that happens you can still get the spiffy robot using Myron's brain (just use the med lab in Sierra to extract it. Take Myron into the operating room, make him stay there and start up the equipment. It's pretty cool.

BTW whats a good none-burst weapon for marcus? the big guy cant seem to stop hitting any of my party

Definitely the plasma rifle. Get the wierd guy in the basement of the New Reno gun dealer to upgrade it for free. He's a menace with a bozar or chain gun and also with hand grenades. Worse than Sulik.
