Kind of lost for next move. *Spoilers

I have a feeling that the way things are going, I'm nearing the end of the game.

I just started to tackle the Military Base and the only other place I've not been to as far as I know is The Cathedral, based on what areas are available to me (although I had to search like hell for the Military Base) so there may be other areas I don't know about.

Here's my problem, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but both Dogmeat and Katja get killed real quick in the Base.

Is there a point that I should get rid of my party members and go it alone? I ask this because I seem to be spending a lot of time trying to heal Dogmeat and Katja and usually it's all in vain, they die anyway.

Near the end of the game it's easier to play solo than trying to keep party members alive, so there's no need to keep them unless you want more carrying capacity.

It's better to tell Katja to leave and take her back when you return (or leave her forever). You can try to capture Dogmeat behind a force field and take him back on your way out if you want to keep him alive without too many stimpaks, but getting him killed will make the game easier, but it's not impossible to keep him alive until the end.
The game ends when you've finished both the military base and the cathedral area, I'm quite sure that you've found all other areas by now, so don't worry about having missing anything.
