Installation - Compatibility Problems

Well, I decided to play Fallout.

So, when I tried to use the setup file it gave me a message saying that "The program is not supported by this version of Windows."

I believe it was originally made for DOS, Windows 95 and Windows 98. I do not know if it ever worked for Windows ME, but I suspect that it did, however, as the last three Windows OS more or less broke away from DOS, I'm guessing that just like Windows XP (the OS that I have), they do not work.

So, my question is:

Is there any way to bypass this? Can I install a DOS emulator to play this?

Installing Windows 98 would be too painful and I probably wouldn't do it as Wndows XP isn't backwards compatible so I'd have to get rid of my current OS to install Windows 98 and then reinstall it.

Yes, there is.

Just right click on the file, then select properties. Select the tab called something like "Compatibility". (there should be three tabs, and it's the one in the middle).

From there, you should be able to select the compatibility mode for the exe (Win98, 2000, NT...)
