Does anyone know where to find the gauss rifle in the game? I've never had it for sale from any of the shopkeepers in SF and I don't want to kill the Shi. I tried to steal one but they have them equipped. I'd like to have one before I take on the enclave.

several guards over at navarro have them i think....and its strange that SF traders dont have it...once i discovered SF even the traders over ant NCR had one......

Yeah, I checked quite a few places for advice before I posted, and most of them said the shops in SF should carry one. I only know about them because I accidentally pissed off the Shi and had to fight my way out (I reloaded), but picked one up from a corpse and realized it's butt-kicking potential. Now I want one of my own...

There are two merchants in SF - but you probably knew that. The one down the alley has weapons and armor. The Chinese merchant never carries weapons so don't even waste your time with him unless you want other supplies. If the other merchant doesn't have the rifle now just wander out of town and come back after doing an encounter or two. After a few days of traveling try him again. Keep repeating until he finially gets the rifles. Be careful though, those press gangs and cultists can tear you a new one if you run into them. I'm not sure what triggers the change in merchant inventories but this has always worked for me. Both of the SF merchants are easily pickpocketed, as is the upgrade science guy in the cultist camp. Also you can pickpocket some gauss ammo at the NCR from the cops as many of them carry gauss pistols (though you can't steal the pistols). Very rarely if ever will either merchant at the NCR have gauss weapons but they will eventually start getting guass ammo in inventory.

I just went on to the enclave without it, when lo-and-behold there was one for the plucking. I already had a boatload of ammo (acquired from said NCR guards) so I pretty much walked through the enclave. This is my first time playing, and I thought the final fight would be a lot more difficult. But all in all, a fantastic game. Very, very fun.

Believe me - you surely CAN buy gauss rifle in SF (the merchant on the right). Just pay him a visit often and you will find it. And you can always find it somewhere in the field, don't remember exactly now where... my guesses are Sierra Army Depot and Toxic Caves base (you need lots of sience and repair to get the computer working again and lots of lockpick plus electronic lockpick mk II to open the elevator downstairs.... I'm telling you I CAN"T buy the gun from the merchant in SF. I've probably went there about 20 times and he's never, ever had it. I tried leaving the screen and coming back and no luck. Maybe it's a bug in my game or something. It doesn't really matter anymore because I found one and finished the game, but thanks for the information.

You can actually steal the Gauss Rifle from one of the tanker vagrants on the ship. Can' t remember which one it is. But you can try to use steal on every one of them

I've had this same problem. I've been making trips between SF and NCR for a few months waiting for one to show up in stock.. I've gotten a ton of 2mm ammo but still no Gauss Rifle in stock. I've been playing a "good guy" this time around and don't want to steal one or kill for it.

On a side note, I ran into the same problem with the Bozar. For months it would not show up in stock on any merchant.. then I finally broke down and went and got the one from the toxic caves. As soon as I did that they started showing up on the merchants.

Really making me wonder if there are triggers for certain things to show up on merchants...

Crolug's right, you CAN buy Gauss Rifle, because as I entered this shop 4 the 1st time I saw that precious. Besides, there are Gausses neither in Sierra nor in Toxic Caves. Been there today, seen it (Marcus's style :P ) Leon85 as well as me were the wisest, because we just stole it (my Steal: over 100%). That guy's in the canteen, and it is the one in leather jacket, standing in front of the bar. The only one, willing to talk.

If you're into some heavy combat, two or three guards at the Shi temple are equipped with Gauss Rifles, so, if you're levelled enough, you might consider attacking them. However, you'll turn entire San Francisco hostile, so it may not be such a good idea. Also, when you wander through the mountains, now and then you'll find caves with bandits inside who, depending on your level, may be equipped with Gauss Rifles (at least one of them).
As for the SF gun merchant, he has a restock time of 1-3 weeks, if I recall correctly, so if you don't find the Gauss Rifle on him immediately, come back after a week or two.

every time I'm in San Fran, I always come across Gauss Rifle, of course without 2 mm EC, but hell, when I reached Enclave, soldiers in Power Armours were in possesion of 50 of them (times... let's say 10 or more = 500 and that's something

There's Gauss Rifles to be had from:

• The vagrant that had one of his organs sold
• The two guards in the Shi complex that stand watch over the throne room (inside, not outside)
• Various Enclave soldiers in the Navarro base

it is in Sanfrancisco. Some tradesman sell it, or some guy on tanker has gauss rifle

The gun merchant outside walls of NCR (NCR Bazaar?) sells the guass gun. I myself KNOW it's possible to buy a guass gun and pistol but I play on original unpatched.

I've never been able to buy a bozar before though, I usually steal one.
